People - including me - have been saying this ever since Eddie rolled up at Etihad.Naah. We agree on a lot most of the time, but that was on de Gea. We all know, and he knows, that he isn't good with his feet and we all know, and they both know, that Maguire has the turning circle of an oil tanker. Firstly, Maguire calling for the ball doesn't make it his fault, as some have suggested. I am assuming de Gea has a brain, here. Also, being told to play the ball out from the back doesn't make this ten Hag's fault. Again, assuming de Gea has a brain, there were other options. He must have seen the three pressers converging on Maguire and then he underhit the pass, so that they were nearly on top of him when he received it. There was nowhere for Maguire to go, unless we suddenly expect him to move like prime Nureyev and shimmy past three pressers into midfield. That was never going to happen.
De Gea's fault all day long.
As an aside, these balls from the keeper to a defender under pressure in centre field just outside the box give me the willies every time. I don't know who started this shit (Neuer?) but it has taken a couple of years off my life expectancy. It looks good when we do it because we have the keeper and defenders/midfielders to deal with it, but it will cost us at some point and when it does I can guarantee you that people will be saying, and quite rightly, that it was Ederson's fault for choosing the wrong ball.
No difference here especially when the players look like the Keystone Cops when they to play intricate football with their feet.
I don’t remember it happening yet. Admittedly, Ederson has given the ball away with some careless passing, most notably at Klanfield, but not in or very close to his penalty area.
