1992 to 2013 was a great period for United (similarly 1973 to 1990 for Liverpool). But they were crazy anomalies in the history of both football clubs that are never going to be repeated for either of them ever again.

It’s City’s turn now. It might last from 2012 to maybe around 2031 or something. Then it could be Newcastle’s. In the future clubs like Spurs, Leeds or West Ham will be the next ones along with the investment and success (they’re the three biggest potential opportunities for investors in the country).

United (and Liverpool)’s time has been and gone. It won’t be long until City’s is n’all. But I think we understand that where those two sets of fans never have.

The difference with the past 30 years though is that it’s not just the fans that think this way. The clubs themselves have been doing everything in their power to rig the game so that they’re always on top. They want a Rangers and Celtic situation and if it wasn’t for Abramovich and Mansour, they probably would have managed it.

Mbappe is one of the two supreme talents of the new generation. Conveniently enough, the other is at City. Mbappe, however, is a virus in football terms personified, especially in the context of club football. That guy just wants to score goals and to get his ballon d or. I was surprised that his name was mentioned at all as one of the first pieces of the puzzle for the Qataris. Someone like him should be the last, a cherry on top.

The Qataris seem to want to replicate the Real Madrid approach, to buy the most expensive players around. Except Real Madrid, all top teams lately adopt a coherent football style and train rigorously according to the selected style. The Real Madrid-like and PSG-like approach the Qataris may use will be fun, for outside observers and audience. It will be box office.

I'd like to throw my support behind Chelsea Jim but there's not really any certainty that the Qatar bid is as it seems with the guy being worth less than a quarter of the asking price and that's before needing to spend.....we've seen fake sheiks before.

Anyway forca Chelsea Jim, at this moment in time it's the bid the raggy unwashed don't want so it's a big YES from me.

The scum were lucky because unlike the scousers their successful period co-incided with the big money pouring into the game enabling them to dominate. The key is how well you link current success to forward planning and building wisely for the future .

You'll find that the rags have outspent us constantly in the last 5 years, it isn't lack of money that makes them shit it's the arrogant way that they do business.

They also thought that if they sneaked in and offered more money for our target players that they would be able to keep us down whilst boosting their own prospects.
Sanchez, Fred, Maguire and PR7 were lured to the snake pit by ££'s signs but it didn't do the rags or the players much good at the end of the day.
