If anyone is outraged by a bunch of footy fans singing distasteful songs I'm not sure they understand the culture...

I like Punk music but I think Frigging in the Rigging is an health and safety nightmare and those Pistol Chaps should be thrashed

I haven't heard the jelly and ice cream chant for ages. As we've become more successful and the rags shite it's become almost irrelevant. Ferguson and his era have long gone.
Bobby Charlton I wouldn't disrespect. A rag he might have been but he always came across as a quiet decent bloke and he was a great player for England. I actually met him once when I was a kid. Myself and the family had gone fishing at Lymm Dam just after England had won the world cup. My dad spotted Bobby and said why don't I ask him for his autograph. I replied no he plays for United but I did eventually chase after him and ask for it. He was a real gent and laughed when I told him I supported City. Rest in peace Bobby and to any City fans disrespecting him you're hurting our club much more than you'll ever hurt his family or the rags. Stop it.

I don't see any reason to hate Charlton or disrespect his memory for several reasons, but one main one is ever more prudent; we've won.

United are seen as secondary to City in every current clash. We've won multiple Premier League titles, we've won them back-to-back, we've won three in a row and chasing a fourth. We've won the FA Cup, League Cup, once four years running. We've won the pinnacle of European Football and most importantly, we've matched their highest achievement, what that club dined out on for years as the highest accolade not even Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal have acheived or anyone thought possible, The Treble.

Charlton saw it all. He saw us rise and his own club fail. He saw the dilapidated, crumbling Old Trafford looking worse now than when the Germans bombed it. So there's no need to insult his memory further, City have already regained our pride for us where it mattered, on the pitch. Any and every comment he may have made about our club have been well and truly silenced. So I do hope any Blues going to the 'Colander' to reflect that pride back at them. Let them have their respectful moment of reflection for a past player who saw successes at their club... and observed ours.

Spot on, let the mid table team have their moment reminiscing about former glory and then (hopefully) smash them on the pitch reminding them of the current harsh reality they are facing - their shite and they know they are.

Football is an emotive sport and it's a love affair. It has to be, in no other form of entertainment would people shell out thousands of pounds, travel hundreds of miles in all kinds of weather, risk getting attacked, with no guarantee that entertainment will be an enjoyable or successful experience. People love their clubs like they love their families .As a result we take any slight, however minor, as a personal insult and attack and react accordingly.

Back in Shankleys day there was no social media and wall to wall coverage of the sport. I'm sure Everton fans were frothing at the mouth back then but had nowhere to vent that anger bar the home, pub, work and terraces. They didn't have thicker skin they just had limited avenues to vent.

Any death of a person in the public eye will always open a much wider debate than just the man and his passing. That just the way life is.

That's a good response. I can see that the passing of a legend sparks "best of all time" debates. The Diego Maradona thread being the one I recall on here the most vividly.

I was sadly not shocked although disappointed to see the whataboutery regarding United fans singing about Leeds and Hillsborough. Another poster pointed out that is was a likely reaction after a few dickhead City fans sang what they did on Saturday was all over the press and the Premier League started releasing statements.

I concede on the "best of all time" point but stand by that not being the thread to post videos of other sick chants. I truly believe that even the one from Saturday shouldn't have been in there.

Is this an example of two posters disagreeing with each other, getting into a debate, posting respectfully and reflectively and then coming to a joint conclusion?

If so, I think it's best for everyone if I just call you a **** and have done with it.

Best England player of my lifetime……….Jimmy Greaves, shout out to Bobby Moore. Jimmy is my favourite non City player, and Moore the best and most creative defender I ever saw. So maybe I am biased and Moore should be No.1.
”And that tackle by Moore…” Some feat to have a single tackle remembered and everyone who saw it knows exactly what the song refers to.
Bobby Charlton was a very fine player but not England’s greatest. As someone posted above Tom Finney has his advocates.

If "The World's Greatest Club"™ don't win tonight, they're in trouble. Accepted wisdom is that 10 pts is the requirement to get out of the group, though I'm fairly sure teams have qualified with 9 points. But if they only draw tonight, they'd really be looking at winning their last 3 games to get to either of those totals. Two wins and a draw would get them to 8 pts. Has anyone ever qualified with 8 pts?
