And that's yet another part of the problem, what "great players" have they signed in the last few years?

To take just the last 12 months, they have signed some overrated dross (Mount), some over the hill has-beens (Casemiro), and some promising youngsters with potential (JFE Hojlund). I don't remember the last time they signed a "great" player.

It's just that everyone who signs for them gets immediately hyped up way beyond their worth (Donny van de Beek anyone?).

Van Persie was the last top player they signed, and that was eleven years ago.
