The European Cup always worked financially against the smaller teams. Two matches and they were out. To help the smaller clubs Uefa changed it to a league format. Two qualify and the smaller clubs have a chance with the Thursday cup.
It seems no matter how Uefa try to help the rags they manage to fuck it up.
The league format wasnt to help the smaller clubs in my opinion. It was to feed the greed of the bigger clubs. More games, more tv, more money

Have a look at villas run to the final in 82. Think they played 4 rounds to get to the final?

Feel sorry for VAR this week which is how bad the bleating is. Narrative from the pundits shows clearly why ex players shouldn't be refs and why "refs haven't played the game" is a stupid comment. Intent is irrelevant so to keep saying Rashford didn't mean it is just about the dumbest defence you can make.

To then argue that Rashford hasn't even seen the player is also a nonsense because if he has not seen the dude then who is he shielding the ball from? He's reached way beyond the ball to block the Copenhagen player - his movement is towards the player and not the ball. He's unlucky in one sense - if he was a fraction quicker he'd have got his foot down before the Copenhagen player gets there - but the reach and downward thrust of the leg makes it a red for me. My only wish is that United had scored from that attack and then had the goal ruled out due to the foul from Rashford.

This week we have had people say VAR should have sent BG off against Arsenal despite the ref doing nothing and now we have people saying VAR shouldn't have sent Rashford off because the ref did nothing.

Anyway United really are trash. Having your left winger sent off is no defence for that defence and when it was as bad against City then that excuse is a real stretch. They've bought poorly and then players have got worse

Agree with going into the thurs cup tho. Safety net for the istree teams

Remember pep early in his city management after poor referee decisions saying we have to be better

Their response to last night just sums up the problem with their mentality and culture, they just don't own their problems. The idea that rashford's challenge was anything other than a red in modern football is just delusional and a way of avoiding taking responsibility.

In that sense the way the press blow smoke up their arse is actually quite helpful because it feeds their general sense of entitlement and unless and until they lose that they will remain absolutely mediocre.
