"the club is effectively a heritage brand that markets itself on the basis of nostalgia"

kind of sums it all up :-)
they will end up as a kind of 'Harlem Globetrotters' team, the league will be abandoned, and they will get to arse around in exhibition matches against the worlds top teams....kinda like what t hey're doing now when I think about it...

at the moment I don't think they could beat a team from Billy Smarts Circus

Whilst obviously revelling in the OT shambles, I am genuinely interested in what they are going to do this summer. Prize money down, no European football next year, over £200m outstanding on the dross they have already bought, and a new manager who seems unable to work with many (if any) of the existing squad. A rebuild is not going to be easy. Getting a chunk of money from Saudi for Fernandez is an option, but he is by a country mile the best player there. It is a total mess, and apparently they are about to spend £62m more on a guy who served two suspensions last year for fighting off the ball. We might have a few issues, but by comparison to that lot, we are on a different planet currently.

Honestly, their best option, put out a tender for a behind the scenes series covering the upcoming season, and you’ll have the biggest production companies in the world fighting over box office gold [emoji15]

if they sell him they’ll get what, £80m or something?

That buys you one top tier player these days. And if you’re the rags, and every selling club knows you’re fucked and desperate, nobody is going to do you a favour.

I don’t see a way out of this for them at all.
