I can’t believe I’m gonna speak up in defence of Fernandes but I think if Pep put KDB in a midfield 2 with Kalvin Phillips he’d also look shit.
Fernandes’ goal and assist numbers do speak for themselves to a certain extent. IMO he’s never had the right mentality and work rate to be absolutely top tier, and if he did he wouldn’t have gone to United.
He’d still be their best player if he was given a solid midfield platform, wasn’t asked to be box to box, and was playing passes into a front 3 that could score goals.
