Manchester United’s managerial history since Ferguson retired is interesting reading. The empire continues to crumble. Including caretaker managers they’ve had 10 managers in 12.5 years. That’s not a recipe for success.
  • 2013: David Moyes appointed in July.
  • 2014: Moyes sacked in April; Ryan Giggs (caretaker) steps in until May. Louis van Gaal appointed in July.
  • 2016: Van Gaal departs in May; José Mourinho takes over.
  • 2018: Mourinho sacked in December; Ole Gunnar Solskjær appointed caretaker.
  • 2019: Solskjær becomes permanent manager in March.
  • 2021: Solskjær sacked in November; Michael Carrick (caretaker) for a few games, then Ralf Rangnick (interim) in December.
  • 2022: Rangnick finishes interim role; Erik ten Hag appointed in May.
  • 2024: Ten Hag sacked in October; Ruben Amorim appointed in November.
  • 2026: Amorim sacked January 5th. Fletcher appointed caretaker manager.

Messy

How can they still run with that narrative.
Because they have a large following of brain-dead lemmings who lap up every bit of propaganda they can get. If a press release from that pit of poison was to say the Incredible Hulk was taking over, most of that fan base would be saying: "Cool! About time we had someone who won't take any shit in charge." It is ingrained into them to accept without question anything that is told to them by rag staff. Imbecilic glory hunters, most of them.

I believe tension between club and manager has been critical because of different expectations for the transfer window: Amorim wishes to sign more players while the board do not. This ties in both with Amorim’s claim that he is a manager not a coach and alsoo PB’s analysis of their accounts which suggests the club is only operating within PSR by borrowing which adds more to an already mountainous debt. Amorim was in danger of becoming too outspoken on this matter and so had to go go! If this is true they will have a hard task to find a replacement with any standing in the game - Darren Fletcher may be a surprise appointment “till the end of the season “. Not exactly the glorious days when stability led to success! Or is that now…. but at the Etihad?

Ruud van Horseface comes in there somewhere too.

Not quite as good as our 14 in 15 years (Bond to Royle) but getting close.
