Be fair, he had been standing too close to the Govan Pisscan and got a whiff of his foul, alcohol-drenched breath and collapsed shortly after in a drunken stupor.

So, they’re not going to buy any new players?

Because, if they do, it’s as sure as eggs are eggs, that any new signings will want a huge salary for the privilege of joining the second club in Greater Manchester.

And that means their wage bill will be higher than fifth.

I haven't clicked on the article but the very fact that it exists at all, combined with the overly-positive noises about Carrick's remaining at the wheel*, might be a hint that the famous Yernited "war chest" is looking a bit Mother Hubbard-ish.

* They say "at the wheel" but 'on the deck - as the water keeps rising' might well be more appropriate.
