Unlikely fan but a true one.

I'm in a similar boat as you Unlikely, myself I come from Chicago and my father spent some time at the University of Manchester(Victoria) and while he was there became a Blue, and has raised me as a blue. I have my kits and scarves and follow religiously, and I get my sanity questioned why I'd choose City when the big four are much more popular. My dream is to make it to Manchester and watch City, but my biggest fear is to be questioned, rejected, as an important part of City's culture is being from Manchester while obviously, I am not.

hey, amazing username!

This is the time of night you start getting more yankee comments :P.

Thanks to everyone for the great words. Is there an official MCFC supporters club for America. I have looked online and emailed one website but never got a response.

i've not had this fear at any stage, myself... i live in melbourne, australia and have never been to to the uk let alone maine road or COMS, but nevertheless am blue to the core.

i started following city from about '99 onwards and i have my original "eidos" sponsored shirts, well worn, in the wardrobe ready to be worn yet again. i remember the pride of recieving my first shirt via royal mail and wearing it around my uni campus to puzzled look of my mates...

i have no doubt that when i finally make it over to manchester to see my first game, i'd be made to feel welcome! i think the true city people would know one of their own pretty quickly.

there is something about city that just has to be loved. or maybe it's that masochistic streak in me that needed recognition! either way, city appeals to many, many of us abroad and you can be assured that these people are in no way all bandwagon glory hunters!

tbh a lot of the "all city fans are from manchester" thing is to wind up the rags. little more, we all know they arent.

great read from all you out of towners!

You will be treated very well in Manchester and receive genuine freindship for loads of reasons but none more than the colour of your blood. I would think if you were a rag people wouldn't care for you as 50% of their crowd comes from outside manchester but at COMS and in town people would genuinely be interested in your story!!

keep the faith.....C>T>I>D>

I don't think it's important where you're from. I live in Kent, in the south east of England, and yet I've been following the Blues since the late 60's (yeah, I really am that old!).
If you know in your heart of hearts that you're Blue then fuck what other people think.
Be proud of who you are and be proud of your origins, but above all be proud to follow City.

I bloody well am.

Thanks for all the great responses. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. My goal is to come over next february. Try and get about 3 games in while I'm there.
