Unpopular opinions

Voting is the most basic human right imaginable.

Nobody should be omitted from voting because certain members of the populous deem them incapable of being able to do so on a level that they are satisfied wth. If someone wants to vote Monster Raving Loony they have every right to. Having a complete understanding of the current political climate or knowledge of each parties manifesto claims does not and should not be used as an excuse to exclude a person from having a vote in political matters.

Having the right to vote and being able to competently operate a machine are not comparable situations. If we're some denying some people the right to vote should those people also be denied access to clean drinking water unless they can prove they will do something productive that day?
no to the drinking water question , however i would ban half of the country from reproducing

I have, I stated that financially the UK is doing well GDP wise and unemployment is at record lows. In response to someone who wrongly stated that the GDP had reduced by 100billion since Brexit.

I did also say that if I'd had the vote as a British citizen I'd probably have voted remain. But people like me were not allowed a vote. (which is fair enough)

Not sure that was someone wrongly stating something, GDP is significantly lower than it would have been had we not gone through brexit.

Unemployments also not as simple as thinking low = good, one of the drivers is that we’ve got a smaller workforce - which is why there’s so many vacancies that can’t be filled.

It was more age than class background that showed differences in support for Brexit wasn’t it?

Yes, Healey played in the game I was talking about earlier for The Lantern. May have been after they switched to The Royal Oak actually. Late 80s/ early 90s.
Sorry I missed this, I would say Healey in particular was still playing 1985/6 mate, I say that because it would have been within the two previous years before my lad was born in 1987, and I specifically remember one of the old lads (was well into his 50s by then, an ex pro who gradually flowed down the leagues as many did to us) pointing out all the different ex-pro’s, semi-pro’s, who’d had trials for who etc, was frightening really back then the standard, I like to think I was a pretty decent player, I was I suppose, I just had a really lazy ‘couldn’t be arsed attitude’ typical 18/19 year old, I had one game at top level, and had an absolute shocker lol, and all things considered, was a bit out of my league.

I think you may be right about it being ‘The Royal Oak’ by then too, vaguely remember the top two teams for a period being ‘The Oak’ and ‘The Grapes’, still remember ‘ The Peel Hall’, despite being in the 4th division at the time having a cracking side for a couple of years, going deep into the cup and knocking out at least one top side, they had a red haired postman on the wing who was like lightening.

Personally, I don't think brexit was just about bitter, angry old white people. Consider where we are now with India, the prospect of a free trade deal, a condition of which is relaxed migration rules. I also believe that people of colour may have voted for brexit because they regarded people from Eastern Europe to be as racist as many Brits.

No I don’t think it was solely about any specific thing either, just as the conversation was just about working class voters and I’m pretty sure the bigger differential for Brexit came from age groups rather than class background.

You miss everything when you only see the propaganda.
listen or read what Noam Chomsky has to say about the Ukraine and how the west have goaded Russia since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
btw the war in Ukraine has been going since 2014. The west had ample opportunity to defuse things but instead armed Ukraine to the teeth. The current proxy war is all about draining Russia, its another Afghanistan. Putin is a vile war criminal who I hope ends up in The Hague. But that does t mean the west hasn’t played dangerous games.
I wouldn’t trust Chomsky to tell me the time. As a source for the political dynamics of Ukraine he is about as accurate as the goal attempts of Gary Ratboy Neville.

What got Brexit over the line were the votes by those who thought Brexit would end all immigration, and lead to some migrants already living and working here to be "sent back"

There’s another thing I think should be brought in - you should have to pass a DBS check to have kids.

Are you sure that you would pass the intelligence test?

If you spent ten minutes thinking about it, rather than five you would realise how daft and dystopian your ideas are.

Quite right.
Who decides what someone else’s criteria for choosing their vote is.
Basically if they are less likely to vote like you?
Would you exclude them next for being Catholic/Protestant/Muslim/Atheist?
What next, exclude gay/bi/ lgbbcitvvch4 ? Or maybe just women.

That would never happen, would it?
You’d be dreaming of the good old days, when every eejit had a say.

Rags and dippers to start.

You are absolutely correct, the problem here is that a nationwide vote was taken on a subject which most people did not fully understand, and where lying was systematic.

Our elected government, having taken the advice of professionals in the various fields, should have had the balls to make the decision based upon what was best for the long term prosperity of this country.

Agree with most of that. If we were an intelligent and properly functional democracy the tories and any other pro brexit party would be disbanded for the level if lying and shithousery over the last 5+ years.

Our population lacks the intelligence and the system can be easily corrupted by liars.
