Upson

I dont think we will get Upson at this stage even if Lescott falls through. West Ham over played their hand asking for £15 million - double his real market value.

I think if Lescott falls through it will be Distain for £4 million ish maybe less with Benjani or Ben Haim. Will do till January or next summer. Hes a year older than Upson same sort of level but a third of the price. PLus Pompey may well go bust so we are not giving decent money to a side we have to compete with.

IMO id rather distin than either of the above, better footballer than either, quicker, better in the air and a very good orginizer.

And he is still only 31 inhe, will do nicely for 2-3 years,im sure we can all let all the shit that happend between us the fans and him can all be forgoton about

it seems clear if lescott is a no go that upson is the back up, wonder how as a pro you'd feel about that? i know we'd pay him more than he gets at west ham, but surely part of him would be feeling like "second best" without being too pesamistic we could go in for upson and out of principle he may turn us down! just a thought.

Hear, hear - I'd have him back over Upson any day. People who write him off didn't see how good he was last year and the year before. Swap him for Benjani and I'd be happy.

Yeah, but that happens all the time. Unless you're the best player on the planet, there will always be someone better than you. I'm sure Ade isn't bothered that Eto was the preferred choice until that deal fell through.

I am told Upson has sold his house and he is not going to be living in London.

Probably buying an ex-council house in Essex, bloody recession

Looks like he's on his way here:

MATTHEW UPSON fears he might be sold as West Ham fight for financial stability.
The 30-year-old defender has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including big-spending Manchester City.

And Upson, who is rated at around £10million by the Hammers, admits he could be sacrificed to balance the books.

He said: "West Ham's financial predicament is well noted.

"Whether or not that means someone will have to be sold, I don't know.

"It hasn't been mentioned to me that we need to sell players but how much investment is going to come in is debatable and the squad is not the thickest in terms if numbers.

"If there was a situation where they accepted an offer and it was down to me if I wanted to move, I would have to look at the club in question and make that decision.

"It will have to be the right club."

Very good player this lad, and represents much better value at £10m than Lescott at £22m imo.
