I would rather stick with dunne as I think they are both clumsy.
neither of us have the knowledge to argue this properly (as we dont see him week in week out) but on west forums the fans say how reliable and consistent he is and how he organises there defence! and i dont want to slaughter dunne but from your comment would you say dunne would get in the england squad if he were indeed english?

i duno, cos dunne plays like gladiator when he puts the ROI shirt on, so on international form i would do actually

if we go for upsona nd at that price id say it is a bit of a sign of desperation.......

Is he really that much better than Dunne/Ned/richards?

he will have no sale on value

he has a poor injury record

£12 million with £3 million add ons. Thats too much IMO for a 30 year even though hes a good player and would improve us considerably.

We have left it too late and we are desperate so it might have to happen. His real world non city value is more like £ 8 - £10 million though.
i'd probably go along with your comments and estimations there! but its not astrenomical . . . . . . . .ala lescott

I bloody wouldn't. I'd pay £30 mill for Lescott before I'd pay a penny for this 30 year old Richard Dunne II.

Still think its a better deal than Lescott given his problems with his knees and Everton are in direct competetion with us.

£12 million in cash to West Ham, the manager will be lucky to see half of that they are not a threat to us well shouldnt be anyway !

Its difficult we have made a rod for our own back leaving it this late. When you see Spurs paying £8 million for Bassong (Seriously shit) and £6 - 7 million for Naughton with only 40 games under his belt in the championship its not that bad really.

Its a shame we didnt at least explore the possibility of Bruno Alves for £20 - £25 million hes the new Cavalho a risk but probably worth taking but Hughes wont buy outside the prem this window.

I have a feeling Upson is as good as we can get at this short notice if it means Ben Haim will never play for us again it will be well worth the money. I amazed people think hes only as good as Dunne hes a much better player IMO and the same sort of age.

What will be funny is Lescot showing up for the England squad and the likes of Barry having a good laugh telling him how much they are on and the deal hes missing out on. How pissed off would you be...

They aren't. They only think they are.

And what's this about knees?. Are you saying Lescott is another crock?

Both Lescotts knees are fucked apparently he has to ice them after every game. He got hobbled by a gangster back in his Wolves days.

Lescott is not happening anyway. £30 million is lunatic fringe and there is not desire from any sides to do the deal on the terms available.

Like I said 68 games is not bad in 2 seasons he did pick up an injury when he first went there but has been pretty injury free whilst there really. At £10 - £12 million I would be very happy with Lescott personally the press always add a few million on. I dont believe we would pay £15 million for him when we only offered £18 for Lescott.

Apparently that's an urban myth about him getting kneecapped by a gangster, his knees are indeed fucked though.

Anyway seems West Hams greed have put paid to the Upson deal. £15 million for a player going on 31 is a complete piss take even for us. Real world £8 million. CIty price £10 million max.

As a few others have said hopefully we would walk rather than pay £15 million almost double what he is really worth.

Then why do we want to buy him for over £20 mill? Let's not be signing any more crocks, ffs.

West Ham defender Matthew Upson opens door to Manchester City move

Matthew Upson has given Manchester City hope that he may still join them after rejecting the opportunity to discuss a contract extension at West Ham United.

However, the two clubs are far apart in their valuation of the defender – West Ham want at least £15 million while City have indicated they will offer no more than £10m – which has opened the way for Sylvain Distin to return to Eastlands.

Distin is expected to leave Portsmouth before the close of the transfer window and is also attracting interest from Liverpool. City are prepared to offer £6m for the Frenchman, who left two years ago on a Bosman free transfer, and hope to have him installed at the heart of their defence for Saturday's Premier League opening fixture at Blackburn Rovers.

With Kolo Toure doubtful for the Blackburn game with a hip injury, Micah Richards still overcoming the effects of swine flu and England Under-21 defender Nedum Onuoha troubled by a thigh injury, City manager Mark Hughes is concerned by his lack of defensive options.

City's lengthy pursuit of Joleon Lescott continues, with prospects of a deal now 50-50. City have been encouraged that Everton might accept a bid in excess of £22m but the two clubs remain unable to strike a deal.

Everton manager David Moyes has made it clear to Lescott that he will not be sold and City have turned their attentions elsewhere.

City enquired about Upson at the end of last season but were given little encouragement by West Ham. No bid was made but after City's failure to sign John Terry and Lescott, they have turned again to Upson, who has since told West Ham that he has no intention of entering into talks over a three-year extension to his contract at Upton Park.

The 30 year-old has two years left on his deal and told West Ham last season that he was keen to leave should a club in the Champions League, or with immediate Champions League ambitions, bid for him.

West Ham insist there is no pressure to sell the player and would prefer to part with other fringe members of their squad, such as Calum Davenport and Julien Faubert, as they continue to try to balance the books. However with Upson refusing to consider a new deal, and given the player's age, they may be tempted to cash in.

However the club have stated that the final decision rests with Gianfranco Zola, who has cover in the centre of defence but may deem Upson too valuable to be allowed to leave.

Both Upson and Lescott are in the England squad for tomorrow's friendly away to Holland. West Ham bracket Upson as being worthy of a similar fee to what City offered for Lescott.

However, if Upson were sold it would add to the pressure on the club, and raise further doubt over the state of the finances. West Ham insist they are in a stronger position than critics have been suggested and are actively pursuing a number of transfer targets.

Discussions are ongoing with Barcelona's Eidur Gudjohnsen and Bayern Munich's Luca Toni, while other strikers are being discussed as Zola seeks to improve his squad.

The Italian has completed the signing of Czech international Radoslav Kovac from Spartak Moscow on a permanent deal. The 29 year-old has signed for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £2m – half of what Spartak were originally demanding.
