All I know is that that the Dems could have let him slide off into the distance but, no, they reawaken the 'fear spectre'. Why? Cos it would be harder to beat a younger competition in DeSantis.

Not only that, what can they hit Trump with anymore? They've played all their cards; Jan 6th (nobody cares as you can see by the imprisonment of low level participants only), a petrodollar that is tanking, the shifting of billions towards a war when people struggle on home soil, low level jobs, a party that's becoming more totalitarian in its outlook, rather than the 'democracy' it pretends to show its citizens.

Apart from the 10 convicted of seditious conspiracy and the 5 more Proud Boys currently on trial and the 326 charged with assaulting or impeding police officers or Capitol employees including 106 charged with "using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury injury to an officer". If you think that's all low level you must have been toilet trained at gunpoint.

The man was trying all sorts to keep himself in the news and relevance; his own news channel, threats to quit twatter, NFTs and yet the Dems and news cycles keep refocusing on him.

It's like if he was easily caught saying things that were "a threat to democracy" he'd actually be in the jail that they've talked about for well over a year?

Because of suckers like the Dems hope for, Trump gets oxygen.

if you genuinely think Trump was “sliding off into the distance” without these charges, or Democrat “amplification”, then I have a bridge in New York I’d like to sell you. It was owned by Trump several times so I reckon you’d be very interested.

I didn't say they should let him off. I said if they had hard evidence, why is he not in jail now?

Also, why, when the Dems knew that this indictment was pending, did they wait until now to throw it at him?

Because investigations take time to build a case that has a strong chance of leading to a conviction. That is especially so when they involve one of the highest profile criminals in history—the cases have to be even stronger to pass grand jury scrutiny and, unfortunately, meet public expectations (everyone should be treated the same in the eyes of the law but we all know that is not the case with powerful, high profile people; the standard of evidence is higher for those sort due to their resources).

Yes, the Wisconsin Supreme Court tournout was massive and I think there was a 10 or 11 point gap in the final tally. The right's hardcore stance on abortion has been a tipping point, among others. Democrats have a targeted list of weak right candidates to go after in 24 to retake the House, and I think the map looks pretty reasonable for retaining the Senate if I recall correctly. The worse problems are increasingly at the gerrymandered state level as others have suggested. The post-pandemic inmigration moves out of IL, CA and NY (all of which will stay blue) and into states like TX, NC and GA -- which are much purpler now -- will be felt full force in 24. Which of course is why the GOP is panicked, and fighting like the cornered rats that they are, willing to do anything however immoral and anti-democratic to stay alive.
