US Politics Thread

Thanks for your thoughts.

I tend to agree with a few analysts that say until the voting maps unlock—and hopefully independent drawing procedures can be installed and/or enforced—the GOP are going to continue to act in opposition of the majority of voters, largely to keep their captured voting blocks on side.

If you watch the footage of the Dominion legal team speaking you'll see an older, balding gentleman who works for one of the law firms. That's John -- the biggest yank West Ham fan in the USA. So much so that the last issue of the club matchday mag the year they vacated Upton Park there was a whole article about him and his utter obsession with his Hammers through thick and thin.

He's an old college buddy of mine and my wife's. We exchanged email pleasantries after his club helped ours out this weekend. Wish he hadn't settled though :)
You mean, for a draw?

This seems significant.

Suggests the stat offered immunity/flip deals. But all the defendants have the same GOP funded lawyer who did not pass that on and then lied to the court about it.

What is it with american cases being settled before court ?

On June 14, 2017, a mass shooting occurred during a practice session for the annual Congressional Baseball Game in Alexandria, Virginia, where six people were shot, including the then U.S. House Majority Whip, Steve Scalise, U.S. Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner, congressional aide Zack Barth, and lobbyist Matt Mika, by 66-year-old James Hodgkinson. A ten-minute shootout took place between Hodgkinson and officers from the Capitol and Alexandria Police before officers shot Hodgkinson, who died from his wounds later that day at the George Washington University Hospital.[7][8] Scalise and Mika were taken to nearby hospitals where they underwent surgery.[9]

Hodgkinson was a left-wing activist with a record of domestic violence from Belleville, Illinois,[10][11] while Scalise was a Republican Party member of Congress. The Virginia Attorney General concluded Hodgkinson's attack was "an act of terrorism ... fueled by rage against Republican legislators."[12] Scalise was the first sitting member of Congress to have been shot since Arizona Representative Gabby Giffords in the 2011 Tucson shooting.[13] In a 2021 report, the FBI classified the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism, and the perpetrator of the shooting as a "domestic violent extremist" with a "personalized violent ideology".[14][15]

Because even when you have been legitimately defamed, defamation suits are notoriously difficult to win in the US, so there is a risk of losing, even though their evidence was considerable and solid.
