Unfortunately, about 1/2 of American voters love Trump - certainly not everybody.

In this forum, almost no one is stupid enough to love Trump.

But the King was the lawful authority so, according to the scripture cited by Johnson, the American Revolution was going against the duty to obey the authorities. (It's still being argued in evangelical circles.)

Of course, once you've had the Revolution then the new authority must be the one that has been raised up by God and is to be obeyed. The issue from the Bible (St Paul and Jesus) is whether Christians should ever be involved in usurping an existing authority - but it's hard sometimes to avoid a choice if you want not to be called a traitor by the new authority. Plenty of God-commanded usurping in the Old Testament, but that's more for the Israel / Palestine thread.

There's lots of historic writing on when it might to right to overthrow a tyrant - and whether neighbouring princes should come to the aid of an oppressed people. (To which the answer is that it usually happens only when the Prince has something to gain for himself.)

His rabid, poorly educated base will absolutely love this idea, and so will a lot of the more ultra right-wing characters such as Bannon, Flynn and Miller.

It's one of the problems with democracies, in that whilst everyone of voting age (excluding exemptions) gets the opportunity to choose their representation in government, it means that many of those people will be uninformed and poorly educated. Those people will vote for the candidate that they think speaks to their hopes, wants and fears and very rarely consider the wider picture, or the second or third order effects.

This, along with his TV interview where he admitted he will use the DOJ to indict "powerful opponents" should get the US electorate alarm bells ringing.

Sadly you're right. His base will lap it up.

As an aside I saw a Dem spokesperson on MSNBC dismissing new polls saying they are losing minorities votes to Trump. Acting like they are a gimmie. There was a vox pop where one black American said he'll vote Trump because he gets them as he's an outsider himself and has exposed the system!

I'm inclined to ignore the polls at this juncture as all the do is serve to create talking points for the media.
