US Politics Thread

Color me jaded - the 1/6 hearings are a bunch of hoo-ha from my perspective.

We have the former President caught red-handed trying to illegally overturn election results, going so far as to foment insurrection. But what's actually news in this story? Nothing.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to minimize any new revelations (of which I think there will be very, very few of significance), Fox News, the Republican echo chamber, isn't even covering the hearings.

The electorate has known precisely what happened on 1/6 for quite some time (yes, some of the details may have been missing) - and the Right, has decided to side with Trump. Nothing whatsoever in the upcoming hearings is going to change this outcome one iota - which is a very, very sad incitement against the state of Democracy in the USA.

and the selective reporting of it.
For all the faults of our political parties l cannot see any of them encouraging people to demonstrate at night at the homes of the judiciary to attempt to influence them. It is the behaviour of third world countries.
I won't mention the selective reporting in the media, often burying stuff as do many of the posters on here which l think is what you were saying.

Horseshit. Find me one major media source in the USA which didn’t report on this story.

Its not so clear cut. These hearings will bring out the evidence. We already have Ivanka saying she agreed with Bill Barr that there was no election fraud. You would never get that without them and now that is out it ends her as a potential figure of power in the MAGA movement.

This wont change the headline item where we all know what Trump did. But lots of his people will have gone on record to call him a liar. That makes it very uncomfortable within those circles and chips away at the people he needs to back him. If he wants to stand in 2024 he will need lots of good / competent people around him. These hearings are driving those professional people away. Many of them had gone by J6 and this just confirms they made the right call - can he run again with the kind of shit show of a team he would put together.

If you want to know what's most important in the minds of American voters right now (though you should know)...

Then, news flash: gasoline is currently $5.50 per gallon or more and prices will likely increase.

What matters? - it's the economy, stupid!

We are fairly evenly divided and peeling away even a small amount of independent voters could make a huge difference. There is no way he comes off looking better after this.

OTOH, multiple sitting members of congress appealing for pardons could affect their races.

You have hit on the reason why they are not covering it.

The only thing you are wrong about is what the 'Right' is doing. They generally don't care about this. The economy, inflation, rising crime, immigration, baby formula e.t.c. Are just far more important issues. And Fox knows this.


But keep being, logical, factual and Sciency :)

That is not the important part of his post Mr. Centrist.

He is saying when Senator Schummer says "We are coming for you Mr. Kavanaugh, you have unleashed the Whirlwind, And you'll pay for it."

When Jen Psaki says the Presidency's position is that "people can protest in front of the house of Supreme Court Justices so long as they are peaceful"
A statement that contravenes Federal law no matter how it's read.

Perhaps even a discussion of how leftist activists post the addresses of Conservative justice online and ask people to go protest at their homes

The failure to cover how these incidents by Democratic officials ***Let me find the leftist words**** "emboldens anti-Amercians nutjobs" to attempt a Murder suicide on a Supreme Court Justice at his home where his Wife and Daughters live with him.

That is the discussion that's missing. But I'm sure you knew what he was saying. You are obviously an intelligent and 'moral' fella.
