US Politics Thread

A lot going on in US politics with the elections up coming. But the big event of the day is Steve Bannon sentencing for contempt. I think it might just be circa 6 months. But it sets a big precedent. And he is not in the best of shape so 6 months is a lot of time for him.

Bannon is a f*cking SLOB. Hopefully 6 months in chokey will see him expire from 'natural' causes... that's if he doesn't get shivved in chow hall first.

Hope he likes his arsehoke being shredded by an angry man screaming MAGA ironically whilst committing the deed.

If sent to prison, Bannon will serve time in a minimum-security federal prison - no perimeter fence or barbed wire surrounding the grounds, with sports such as handball available. This sort of detainment is known as "prison camp." There's no hardcore criminals around at all - and there's (virtually) zero chance of him getting shivved.

Basically, it's a sort of all-expense-paid retreat - cut off from society but free to exercise your mind and engage in sport as you like, absolutely free, curtesy of tax payers. No wonder that Bannon defied Congress and was willing to face a short prison sentence. Once out - he's back to his old self, but worse, now able to brandish his prison sentence as a badge of honor.

I thought Federal prison was hard core. Or am i just thinking max security federal?

He should get a fine as well. Hopefully he also trips and falls on his way down the court steps.

The term "federal" when applied to criminal conviction simply means that federal law was violated. As opposed to local, city, county, state, or other jurisdictional laws. Conviction of a federal offense does not imply a dangerous, life-threatening, jail sentence among hardened criminals.

Where you're imprisoned and the inmates you are imprisoned with, depends on the crime you committed. Bannon, if sent to jail, faces a sort of monk-like-retreat but with more amenities - whereas a mass-murdering drug cartel boss such as Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán faces maximum security, lifelong, near-solitary confinement jail with almost nothing provided to prevent boredom and loneliness surrounding by murderous inmates convicted of similarly heinous crimes (the sort of hardcore imprisonment you likely envisioned).

Yet inflation is repeated 20 million times by paid tv anchors.

Never underestimate the stupid part of the population.. they outnumber the smart ones!
The main trouble with capitalism in America, is that capitalism doesn't actually exist - it's a bunch of oligopolies more-or-less in charge and they'll quickly realize that it's to their mutual benefit to raise prices - which they'll by-in-large do.

There's nothing wrong with corporations raising prices per se - after all their goal is to maximize profit. The problem is, that there's far too little competition to prevent price gauging.
