US Politics Thread

Just watched Bannon join the Tories in being an "off the scale" cnut.....added to the fact he's a serial wife beater must make him an even bigger one if that's humanly possible..

The main trouble with capitalism in America, is that capitalism doesn't actually exist - it's a bunch of oligopolies more-or-less in charge and they'll quickly realize that it's to their mutual benefit to raise prices - which they'll by-in-large do.

There's nothing wrong with corporations raising prices per se - after all their goal is to maximize profit. The problem is, that there's far too little competition to prevent price gauging.
There aren't many consumer-facing industries in the U.S. that are true oligopolies. And not that many B2B players either, though there are more.

Yet inflation is repeated 20 million times by paid tv anchors.

Never underestimate the stupid part of the population.. they outnumber the smart ones!
Profits are up because comps on revenue and unit turnover are easy (still recovering from the pandemic in 2021) and prices are up to cover variable cost (input) inflation, but because some component of most companies' expense structure is fixed, margins go higher.

There is 100% a labor shortage in the US. Look at participation rates. Look at employment vs. a nine-month cycle of Fed Funds rate increases to kill inflation and how resilient job growth has been. My guess is if companies are reducing their headcounts, they are "firing" people via natural attrition and not replacing them. Many are very worried about finding qualified replacements if they do let people go once demand turns up -- especially in service industries.

Bannon sentenced and Subpoena issued for the "Orange Jesus."

MSNBC hitting the wank wall.

Its by design. Brexit, Trump, Boris Johnson, Bannon, Farage, all the shit, the making a common enemy in scary foreigners, false promises based on very basic racism, the exploitation of the intellectually challenged and providing them with an overly simplistic decision to make based on nothing to mobilise fucktards into voting for things they didnt understand based on 3 word slogans. It was a business model they all thrived off and fed eachother with

And Russia has funded bot campaigns for all of those mentioned in your first line, funny that.

I'm a staunch capitalist. I believe in free market competition. But market forces and economies of scale drive consolidation into ever fewer influential players across many industries with the attendant loss of some degree of competition.
