Get in! So republicans have had a bad night overall ?
It looks significantly better than the polling. But even a majority of 1 in both houses will be enough to let a load of shithousery commence.

I also think RonD's success is good for Dems. It will give him and his backers the confidence to go after the nomination. That will be an utter shitshow from which there will be no winners.

Hard to overstate how bad tonight has been for the Republicans 2024 campaign.

Trump, his endorsements and his proxies have been rejected all over the country. His likely running mate, Kari Lake is 50/50 to win her race. All of his gubernatorial endorsements have lost. All of the 2020 election denying gubernatorial candidates have lost.

De Santis has won convincingly and his (completely illegal) gerrymandering will be the reason Republicans win the house. He’s going to be their candidate.

There’s going to be a schism, and Trump is not going to go down without a very ugly fight. He was threatening De Santis yesterday, I don’t see him accepting losing a primary, he’ll likely still stand as an independent and split the vote.
Trump will certainly never accept losing a primary. When Cruz beat him in the 2016 Iowa caucus he immediately accused Cruz of rigging the vote. Now where have we heard that before?

I think Trump beats Ron in the primary. His crazy base are never going to shift allegiance while he is alive, maybe even when he is dead.

But just the process of a primary will be such a toll for Trump. He can't do traditional campaigning. Everything has to be stage managed for him and he won't want to spend the money. He would resent every second of it. He would do the base minimum and probably win.

Yesterday I’d have agreed with you but last night was so bad for Trump loyalists specifically that they’re already pointed the blame at him

Not sure I agree now. I think we’re about to see a split from the gop hierarchy, they’re well aware that Trump, whilst popular for a minority, is poison for the majority. Nearly all of his picks have lost today.

I think the party machine has known for a wile he is a liability. But the base are so hooked that its more of a cult than a traditional party. The donors and establishment types might want to move away from him but that would come at a cost.

Trump won't quit and he will drag them down with him. I think they know it but what can they do. They allowed him to turn it into a personality cult. If they were smart they would have impeached him after Jan 6th. They did not and they have to live with it.

It's almost in the RNC's interest to just sort of let the DOJ indict and try him without too much fuss, hoping that it'll bring most of the core base round to DeSanctis.
