US Politics Thread

I think it was the West Wing (cause it was like real life, yeah?!) that made me realise how much the US election cycles squeeze down the window of opportunity to actually get anything done, unless perhaps you are operating with big majorities in the house and senate. I find the whole cycle quite interesting but that does appear to be an issue.

(I used to think the UK system was superior in that respect but then we got a government that spent its entire life in campaign mode anyway because it had little clue how to actually govern and when they did try it often went so badly wrong that you'd prefer them to do nothing anyway!)

At the risk of sounding vindictive, when will Boebert's result be known?

Wouldn't be surprised if it went to a recount.

Laughed when I saw this went out on tv

Thanks Bayern.
I knew most of that but not the cycle of the Senate or the House.
Also didn’t fully understand bathe Presidents veto.

It still seems slightly convoluted but at least there are checks and balances in power.
Checks and balances are fine but, given that the incumbent party nearly always gets a kicking in the mid-terms, this system seems set up for almost semi-permanent gridlock, particularly when, as now, the parties can't agree on anything.

Trump is rosy if he’s lost Murdoch. 40% of the US vote how Fox tell them.
If he loses Murdoch he's bollixed. Be interesting to see how his finances look then as well. Maybe he's grifted enough to tide him over at this stage but he's fairly fucking deep in debt and bar his brand doesn't really have many assets. I wouldn't be loaning him any money anyway.

The Dem's pretty much had a choke hold on the House and Senate from the 1930's until the mid 1990's.
