Obviously a long way to go yet, but it's going to be interesting. We'll see what the next major scandal off the GOP cab stand is going to be and how that plays out in the media. One of the biggest issues I see is how the centre/left leaning media deal with things in the run up to the mid-terms. They can easily end up playing into the hands of the GOP and turning voters away from the Democrats.I don't think Afghanistan is important.

Some percentage of voters -- the cult members -- are always going to hate him, so he starts 40 points in the hole to begin with. But now consumers are perturbed by inflation and frustrated by product shortages. Not exactly sure how Biden is supposed to fix this, other than hoping as supply chains re-normalize, inflation and shortages truly are "transitory."
Next comes the winter COVID wave so expect those approval numbers to go down further. Gerrymandering has effectively locked in a Republican Congress at the midterms, plus its very rare for a sitting President's party to do well anyway. But you're right that with the GOP in the grip of the Trumpian cult, it's hard to see how they can make headway with disaffected voters either in 2024. Long way to go.
