Doesn't need to be an app. Presumably could achieve the same reach with web based client.
Although might be limited in how much data they can extract only basing that on the automatic prompts you get from every major domain to use the app instead.
Cheers. Would I be miles off the mark to say that these are basically data mining/advertising businesses dressed up as communications platforms with the added bonus of being propaganda networks?

I'm no expert, but think you are right.
That seems to be the general business model of any social media comms platform.
Although the propaganda might be too toxic for the mainstream companies and advertisers to spend money on space.
Although Facebook/Meta has got away with pushing filth and self-harm images via algorithms to kids and still gets plenty of money.
But then that gives them plausible deniability, whole point of Trump's "Truth Social" seems to be to create a hive mind of nutters. Although it is most likely to just be a grift focused project.
Very hard to establish a unique platform and compete for space with the established ones.
Think Snap was the last big one, and that has devalued hugely since it's IPO.
Seems it has a pre-order download option on apple app store.

Do you honestly back Rand Paul in this on-going debate?
COVID is a serious novel disease and has killed over 5 million people world-wide. As a novel pathogen our immune system has yet to adapt to this disease. Fauci is a spokesperson for the best scientific thinking about how to combat this disease.
Whereas Rand Paul is a demagogue; masking, social distancing, isolation and other measures to combat the disease are all unpopular. And Rand capitalizes on this regardless of truth.

No! As should be glaringly obvious from my prior post. Rand Paul is irrelevant. The growing pile of evidence though? I find more convincing.
1. We all know what the disease is so its vjust filler to repeat the history of the pandemic (like Fauci loves doing when being questioned).
2. The evidence being unearthed (i.e. the YouTube above) suggests STRONGLY that Fauci and his group tried to suppress the theory of a lab leak on the basis of factors Other than Science.
Rand is irrelevant...The news reports about emails between Fauci and others suppressing possible Covid origins and Smearing scientist who don't agree with the Politburo are the real issues here.
Attempting to Make it a Rand vs Fauci debate is just a cute way to avoid the elephant in the room.
But hey, to each his own.

So... you're simply questioning the origin of COVID?
Honestly, I doubt very much that Fauci is trying to "suppress" evidence - he has no dog in the hunt.
60 minutes ran an episode some months back on this topic - it does seem credible that COVID is a human-engineered pathogen that's escaped from Chinese laboratories.
It's also credible that COVID is simply a result of zoonosis; coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people.
Whether or not COVID is a human engineered disease is irrelevant. We'll never discover the truth of this and meanwhile we have a pandemic to contend with.
No! The emails questions whether Fauci is upholding his duties to Science and his job.
This isn't a matter of debate anymore. Watch the related videos on the released emails. He, and his team, (as I'm ascribing to him the actions of the group) CLEARLY suppressed (or put more accurately) 'discouraged' the possible theories of Covid origins for reasons other than Science.
That is a damning offense if true. And he had and continues to have a dog in the fight. He Greenlit 'gain of function' type research after Congress forbade it.
Granted, he argued unconvincingly that it wasn't gain of function and let us know that Paul doesn't have the scientific knowledge to understand... Which the usual media outlets bought.
The issue isn't whether we will find out where it started. The issue is whether a high ranking Science official covered up evidence against the grain of science. And what the ramifications of that is for him, and the Country.
This is a Fauci issue. Not a Paul vs Fauci fight. So Twits about Paul's f'ake license' seem patently silly.

Way over the top irony aside, most scientists at the time of the video didn't think that COVID was man-made. And Fauci repeated such, careful to explain that this conclusion was not absolute.

No, it's not that Fauci repeated what he believed. That's normal. Part of Science is actually getting it wrong. No one has an issue with that...
It's the " actively surprising alternative possibilities that even they themselves concluded was highly plausible...
But If you think that's just great Science. And exactly how to act. Then hey, we'd just have to agree to disagree on what constitutes good science.

Have you read anything I've posted? Or that Fauci has said? The origin of COVID is unknown - it might well have been released from a Chinese lab.
In case you missed the above... I'll say once more:

By the way - do you know what "science" is? It's continual questioning. Once credible evidence amasses to support an hypothesis - science shifts that way.
As for the origin of COVID - who knows?
No one does. And the Chinese are doing their level best to ensure it stays this way. Because if COVID were due to a lab leak - that's bad for the Chinese. And if COVID were the result of, say, bat-to-human transmission IN CHINA - that would be bad too for the Chinese.

Fauci is a life-long public servant doing his best to promote factual, up-to-date, best scientific thinking. He's a hero; moreso for remaining in office in spite of the completely unfounded (thank you Rand Paul) attacks on his life.
