The Supreme Court settles law. If you’re being cheeky that’s fair enough.
Technically he is right. The 3 arms of government are the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches.

But the Judicial Branch is apolitical. In that it isn't elected by the people.

When you said "we have him thr 3 Branches" it's clear you meant the 3 separate parts of the Fed Government that are elected by the people. I.e. the Presidency, Senate and House of Rep.

But hey, this is the political thread. Everything bis politicized and challenged. Enjoy it. :)

I bet most of the nu jobs celebrating the change in Rowe v Wade were - ironically - those who when presented with a mask mandate screamed "my body my choice"
The venn diagram between the two would be a circle

They will also all be against universal healthcare, increasing funding for education, gun laws...you know, anything that matters once a child is actually born

@tolmie's hairdoo hey mate not an American, and not overly religious, and I have no care for Pence.

However, painting a generalized stroke for all religious folks as fucktards is not ok.

Having started as a leftist in my
Younger years I find myself drifting more centre Right.

Gone are the days where both sides could meet in the middle and there is no Centre anymore. Which leaves a huge block of voters high and dry and you have to
Make these days a call for the nut jobs on the left or the nutters on the right.

De Sanctis I feel is that man for the centre, a man who stands for no nonsense bullshit and speaks common sense is the man if I was an American would vote for.

The man literally called the bullshit around Lea Thomas the Trans swimmer and when the female swimmers felt no one was backing them and were scared to speak up. So glad FINA finally came to its senses and won’t allow trans to compete with females.

You cannot change biology of 20+ years and testosterone with couple years of hormone blockers.

And finally De Sanctis Florida bill of No primary school and kindergarten teachers allowed to talk about sex and Straight Gay or Trans up to the age of 7 if I recall is bloody common sense.

I as a parent of two don’t want my kids in kindergarten being talked and influenced about sex. They are too young to comprehend and understand and process that stuff.

It’s with topics like this I hope he brings the country together. This for me is a man that speaks common sense. And doesn’t acknowledge the bullshit that is going on in that country.

So in summary for me he ain’t a GIMP.
This is where I stand too.

I too was on the left as a young man. I find myself comfortably Center Right these days.

Unless things change drastically on multiple fronts, Im definitely voting for DeSantis in 2 years.

I've already said it, barring any new future changes, Ron Desantis will get my vote.

SCOTUS has ruled 6-3 that a teacher (public servant) has First Amendment rights to pray in a public place.

The dissent notes it overrides previous consistent protection of the students from teacher/peer pressure.

I'm waiting for the first anti-gay prayer session to break out.

The irony here is that those who praise this decision are likely to be the same who castigated Colin Kapernick for kneeling in protest during the national anthem.

I actually have no problem with him doing this wherever and whenever -- on his own, even at the 50 yard-line after games. Once the student-athletes were "invited" to do likewise by him, as the facts of the case are quite clear about, that's where the line is crossed for the reasons Sotomayor states succinctly in her dissent.

Trans topic is not a big issue in my life
Sure it isn't. That's why you've brought the word up seven times in two posts, and very little else of substance.

It will be a fairly tough day for you if one of your kindergartners comes home at age 13 or so and says, "Hey, I think I'm trans."

I can assure you many, many on the left who have had that happen to them in the last few years have struggled mightily with it, and agonized over it. The burden is immense. Young people think VERY differently about gender identity than we old folks do, in ways we would never think.

Anyhow, I can't imagine what someone with a predilection to think that DeSantis (whose name I can spell properly in one go) is "center right" -- let alone to vote for him -- would do if that happened.

As I mentioned centre right isn’t there anymore. I am kiwi and I come from a country where I stand for women having right to abortion, and staunchly against guns.

However investment and infrastructure investment from what I understand is on the up in Florida. Internal migration to the state is also on the up.

Trans topic is not a big issue in my life but I can see how ridiculous it’s becoming.

Being religious is not something which is wrong. It does provide a good structure and morals for a lot of people.

I come from a family which is inter religion a Christian mom and Sikh Father. And I’ve learnt to respect religion be spritual.

All I am saying is for people to call out religious folks as fuck tards just because you yourself are not religious doesn’t give one a
Moral high ground.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Earlier in the week he, indirectly, called women having a different opinion on abortion "stupid", two on this thread and my daughter.

He's a clown, so just bypass him.

That’s an interesting article.

Basing arguments against abortion on potentiality are suspect anyway.

For example, some readers of this thread probably have the potential to become the Prime Minister or President of their country, at which point they will receive special rights and privileges e.g. police protection/bodyguards.

But it would be absurd to say that here and now they have the right to a bodyguard and a stretch limo with tinted, bullet-proof windows because they are a potential Prime Minister/President. By extension, even if a fetus is a potential human being this does not mean that it should be entitled to the same rights that we have.

On the issue of potentiality, the philosopher Jonathan Glover had this to say in his influential book Causing Death and Saving Lives:

‘The problem with using the foetus’s potential for developing into a person as an anti-abortion argument is that this suggests that the person it will become is what is really valued. It is hard to see how this potential argument can come to any more than saying that abortion is wrong because a person who would have existed in the future will not exist if an abortion is performed. I would not be here if my mother, when pregnant with me, had opted for abortion. But equally I would not be here if my parents had used an effective contraceptive. It is hard to see how the potential argument can succeed against abortion without also succeeding against contraception. And even those who are against both normally want to say that abortion is worse than contraception.’

Of course, those militantly stupid fundamentalists who oppose abortion, especially the ones aligned with what is known as the Quiverfull movement (worth a Google), would probably be quite happy to have the sale of artificial forms of contraceptive banned too, as the article mentions.

Can I ask another open question to yourself and everyone else willing to engage it (not my question but one I've seen of late)?

In the States (I don't know if it's the same here), if a woman is pregnant by a matter of early weeks and she is, unfortunately murdered, the perpetrator is charged with a 'double homicide'?

Why would that be the case if a foetus is 'not viable' before a certain age of weeks?

No I fucking didn’t and you know it.
