Yes I agree. In the US at least, once moderate Democrats co-opted the idea of "compassionate capitalism", or whatever, the nation unified around the Gulf War which erased the military spending debate, and we got a 40-year bull bond market as a tailwind for the economy, all Conservatives had left was -- as a few have pointed out -- the Newt Gingrich idea of focusing on the difference between Biblical social constructs and post-60s Baby Boomer liberalism, or more generally, rural vs. urban. And that stupid wedge has been driven deeper and deeper ever since.
That’s an excellent summary. And is pretty much completely transferable to our own sceptered isle.
For Democrats read Labour.
For Republicans read Conservative.
For Gulf War read Gulf War.

And pulling the marionette strings on both sides of the Atlantic: Murdoch.

The thing with GOP debates us normies have to understand is to take off our thinking caps and put on your MAGA goggles. You can’t judge debates from your own “practical” point of view.

It was also funny watching Nimrata “Nikki” Haley misspell Vivek’s name as if she doesn’t have several cousins with the same name.

I'm sure most people don't realise she is Asian unless you look her up.
