US Politics Thread

Presumably Harris’s husband was speaking at a Jewish event and a Russian controlled account has decided to take that clip out of context to appeal to antisemites and people angry with Israel to try and encourage them not to vote for her. Saying that speech means US politics is focusing on Israel and Jewish identity is a bit weird considering he isn’t even a politician.
Wasn't a "jewish event" - fact.

Too much lobbying for Israel from both sides needs to be HIGHLIGHTED..... Dont give a fuck if it's Harris or Trump. My point is, why is it Israel first? Why are they sending billions every year. Not since last year, this has been going on for more than 15 years. Ukraine I can understand cos it's mayhem what Putin is doing.

Something to be aware of for those observers that are not familiar with the US election voting dynamics.

A new Supreme Court case could change the result of the presidential election

Republicans ask the Supreme Court to disenfranchise thousands of Pennsylvania voters.

On October 23, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that many voters who cast a mailed-in ballot improperly, thus rendering their vote “void,” should be allowed to cast a ballot on Election Day that will actually be counted. Though it’s hard to pin down exactly how many voters will be impacted by this decision, it’s likely that thousands of Pennsylvanians will regain their ability to vote in the November election if the state supreme court’s decision remains in effect.

The case, which was known as Genser v. Butler County Board of Elections when it was decided by the state supreme court, involves a genuinely difficult legal question that required the state’s justices to resolve a conflict between two competing legal principles. It split them 4-3, with four Democrats forming the majority and two Republicans and one Democrat in dissent.

On Monday, the Republican Party asked the US Supreme Court to intervene and effectively disenfranchise the thousands of voters who will be allowed to vote if the state court’s Genser decision stands. That alone is a very big deal. If the 2024 presidential election is very close, as is expected, and if victory comes down to which candidate wins Pennsylvania, a US Supreme Court decision in favor of the GOP could flip the winner of this election from Kamala Harris to Donald Trump. (Although more Republicans are expected to vote by mail than in 2020, Democrats likely still have an advantage with this cohort.)

But this case could also have massive implications for US democracy that extend far beyond the 2024 election, even if Harris wins in a landslide.

Absolute bent cunts. Sounds like they've got masters and the Premier League running the show over there.

You’ve just posted a link that says he was speaking to Jewish voters. From your link.
In a recent address in Pennsylvania, second gentleman Doug Emhoff made a last-minute appeal to Jewish voters

The content of someone’s speech will depend on the target audience. It’s not unusual.

I’m not really sure what relevance the rest of your post has to anything.

DeSantis’ war on ballot measures ignites fury in Florida: ‘This is still a democracy’

The flurry of actions has generated litigation, a rebuke from a federal judge and assertions that state officials may be breaking the law.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis is using every lever at his disposal to defeat two November ballot measures that would legalize cannabis and restore access to abortions in Florida.
The all-encompassing effort has drawn in state agencies ranging from the one that oversees elections to the one that builds roads. The Republican governor and his administration have openly campaigned against the amendments during events organized by his official office. And they’ve spent taxpayer money on ads warning voters about the dangers of marijuana and pushing back on the abortion amendment, which would overturn the state’s six-week ban.

The flurry of actions has generated litigation, a rebuke from a federal judge and assertions that state officials may be breaking laws designed to prevent the use of state resources to influence an election. DeSantis himself signed a law two years ago that blocks local governments from sending out any kind of communications on local referendums.

“No matter where you stand on an issue, this is still a democracy, and in a democracy, we do not spend taxpayer dollars in advance of a political issue,” State Sen. Joe Gruters, a Sarasota Republican and former chair of the Republican Party of Florida, said last week. “Tax dollars are meant to be spent on our police, schools, roads and other public programs that make our state great, not for political agendas.”

“Improperly” has many meanings when it comes to MAGA.

And you can do it “improperly” even before you cast a ballot, so many people just need to be prevented from voting entirely, just in case.

Virginia voter purge ensnares eligible American citizens

Nadra Wilson of Lynchburg, Va., was concerned and confused when she received a letter in the mail from local election officials notifying her that her U.S. citizenship was in question.

The notice said she needed to affirm she was a U.S. citizen within 14 days or her voter registration would be canceled. It was first sent to an old address and then was forwarded. By the time Wilson received it in October, the deadline had passed.

But Wilson was puzzled by the letter. "I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. — I'm a citizen," Wilson said in an interview with NPR before showing her American passport as proof.

And, in not at all surprising news regarding this case…

Supreme Court clears way for Virginia to remove 1,600 alleged noncitizens from voter rolls
Washington — The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed Virginia to move forward with its removal of roughly 1,600 alleged noncitizens from its voter rolls just days before the 2024 election.

The high court granted a request from state officials to pause a lower court order that blocked Virginia from continuing its systematic voter removal program that was launched in August, exactly 90 days before Election Day. A provision of the National Voter Registration Act requires states to complete programs aimed at purging ineligible voters from registration lists up to 90 days before federal elections.

Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson said they would have denied the request from Virginia officials.

What was the correct context? Better yet, what about a Jewish guy talking about his family do this people think will cause Democrats to not vote for Kamala Harris?
