To be clear I'm not disputing who negotiatied the deal. My point is that it remains the plan that Biden did lay out in May. The details haven't changed.

I'm suggesting that what was missing was the willingness to strong arm Netanyahu into accepting it, a position he absolutely doesn't want to be in. Not beyond the realms of possibility that this triggers the collapse of his government.

Might free him up to face his corruption charges. Oh the irony .... no honour amongst thieves eh ;-)
It's no surprise that Netanyahu is doing all he can to suck up to the incoming administration.

I’m not saying I disagree.

I am saying that R talking points on tax policy seem to be brilliant at ignoring the ledger!

Oh wait, the other side is spending and they’re going to eviscerate that. I’m sure no-one will notice, as it’s all going to be cutting out waste, fraud and abuse…amirite?!

The longer I live, the more cycles I live through, the more I realize that not only is the system broken, but the players inside the system are intellectually dishonest, too stupid to understand how stupid they are, or are simply craven agents of the money upon which they feast…or all three at once.
You already know how o feel about this... I am already a card carrying member of the Chicagoblue for President campaign :)

Imagine America with a Congress and Senate full of people like Jimmy Carter, who ACTUALLY loved America.
In my culture, we don't talk poorly of the recently deceased. So I'll leave it at this... May he rest in peace.

I’d be thinking more along those lines myself. This doesn’t let Biden off the hook however. I think he’s up to his neck in the delay since May. I’ve read in a couple of places that he’s heavily invested in in AIPAC.

Whether a deal now has anything to do with Trump getting inaugurated on Monday or not of course he will claim it was him threatening all hell breaking loose.

Personally I won’t believe anything will hold until I see it happen but I’m only thankful that some aid should now reach those poor unfortunates, no matter who uses it to gloat.

But what now, for Palestine?
As you say the objectives have been reached largely, as far as Netanyahu is concerned. The place is uninhabitable.

One thing I do hope regarding this Political forum is that none of us infect the Middle East thread with the same Trump bias/anti-bias blinkered blindness.

Personally I find that one thread too important and emotionally tough at times.
I know I have an opposing view to quite a lot of our contributors of Jewish heritage but it can still remain a civil debate.

Don’t start making it about personal duals from the American election.
Oh come on now... You can do better than this :)

I honestly can’t when it comes to what has happened in Palestine.
I don’t believe anything lasting is done and dusted yet either or what way this will play out for Netanyahu, for his coalition government for AIPAC, for Zionism in Israel and America.

I will remain sceptical as to where this is going and where different parties intend it to end.

However, I welcome any relief to all the poor unfortunates in the region, no matter who happens to claim credit for it, or whoever may gloat about it.
That could well include yourself @Dax777
Whatever about in this thread, my plea is please don’t infect the Middle East thread with the same unnecessary rubbish.

Awww!!!! Don't add CB to your hate party. Its all you buddy.

I for one I'm chuffed that you are a City fan. And @mancity2012_eamo agrees with me. :p
Don’t drag me into whatever personal feuds you have.
I try my best to get on with everyone.
Whatever the literary equivalent to biting your tongue is, I’ve had plenty of occasion to temper my initial drafts in this sub forum.

Meh! The Middle East thread is already chuck full with lots of rubbish. Perhaps some of it is the kinda rubbish you may agree with in principle... So even if you wouldn't personally say it, it is there already.

Pleas for the ME thread not to be infected comes across as a plea to only hear a one-sided infestation. But fair enough...

I'll stay clear of the ME thread... :)

The infection I’m talking about is making it about Trump or Biden.
If you’ve read my views about the Israeli state then you should grasp I don’t particularly care. Biden is up to his balls in this. But I see it as America is up to its balls in this. Always has been and certainly will be.

I’ll leave it at that in here.
Save to say stopping genocide is to be celebrated. As is hostages returning to their families. Why the triumphalism in America?
Absolutely nothing has been sorted out there yet.
Let’s see the details of what is being proposed.

Yes there is rubbish written in every thread on the forum, so the ME is never going to escape. I’ve limited my own activity in there at times, when I’ve found debate futile.

But you of all people should know that I don’t fear different opinions. Let’s face it. I rarely agree with you, but still debate.

Agree with the irony of politics, but I think it is the retreat of a weak Iran that is creating the desire for a peace, not Trump telling Bibi what to do.

Trump is good at exploiting situations and making it appear he is the King maker, but it is rarely true. Sadly, as POTUS, he gets to write the narrative, and as right-wing as some in his orbit (and the military) are, we are about to wander into uncharted territory.

Expect America to be a very bad friend to their Allies over the next 4 years.

While CB and I may disagree on Bessent, we certainly agree that we wish you supported a different football side.
Hey now…

As Will Smith might say, “Keep my name out of your….!”

;-p

I can separate someone’s politics from the club they love. Heck, I have to separate politics from “real life” every day at work! Union members who hate unions! YCMIU!!

Yes, I agree. Ending the war was a must.

Come on now, you know I'd never accuse you of fearing a difference in opinion. Rather, I was pointing out that one side of what you'd deem the infection already persists on the thread. Thus, any hope that the thread doesn't become infected, in practice, the other side of that infection to stay out.

That's the practical implication of your request. Let me put it another way: Say anytime Joe and John are in a room together, a fight ensues... Joe is in a room; you walk in and say "I don't want this room to become a fighting room"... but Joe is already in the room. So the only practical implication of that request is that John can't come in the room...

That was my point.

Now, now…I’m just kidding around.

Being a Blue is the great uniter.
Politics is the great divider.

But, when it comes to U.S. politics, I don’t have any problem with most views of our friend from the Bay.

Unless you’re an 9 figure SoCal person in the media, I struggle to figure out what’s so bad about Cali. Beautiful state with the kind of problems of a state with the world’s 5th largest economy, without the autonomy to control it.

California?

Undiversfied tiny economy, shite universities, terrible weather, flat as a pancake, monolithic scenery, natural beauty-less, landlocked, white-as-flour population, no sport, zero recreation, 18th century infrastructure, can't feed itself, tourism non-existent, religiously-stunted, hyper-prejudiced bit of wank.

Someone said once "If you don't like California, you're too dumb to afford it."

Almost moved the Tahoe (Incline Village, NV) almost 25 yrs ago, for all the reasons above! ;-)

I think of Cali much like I think of Britain…one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, but unless I had the kind of money that would allow me to live where and how I wanted, I’m probably going to have to pass.

Thought about renting a beachfront condo in SoCal for a few years and flying the 787 out of LAX for my last few years. Just under $5K/mo rent, but it just felt like the whole idea was too much, esp when we can visit for pennies on the dollar anytime we want.

You've missed my point
