US Presidential Election, Nov 5th 2024

Harris spent over a billion for a shit result. Her campaign ran up large debts. Her fan base is arguing, infighting about who is a fault and how they should proceed going forward. NOW I know why she lost.

SHES A RAG!!!

It's a fudge. Welfare funding should in theory be more consistent and frequent than charitable handouts.

Charitable giving is more likely to go to their local church. It's not entirely altruistic in that sense, and the law is pretty generous in allowing chanchers and hucksters to operate charitable churches and pay themselves huge salaries.
It's even worse than that. As a charitable organisation, they are tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), which I'm sure the likes of Kenneth Copeland and Joel Osteen are eternally grateful.

I disagree with them totally. I'm basically saying they are hypocritical cunts.
So let me check. You're not in favour of killing criminals who have exhausted a long and expensive legal route. But you are in favour of killing babies who through no fault of their own may limit someone's career ambitions?

Yes Im fully aware I'm being extremely uncharitable towards a pro choice argument but it's all the rage these days

Having been partly culpable for leading the thread off topic can I get it back on track by asking our US posters, assuming the house is called for the republicans too, what if any levers do the democrats have to either slow down or restrain Trump's legislative programme between now and the midterms? I'm not very au fait with how the committees work and how long things take to come out of them or the degree to which bureaucracy creates some friction irrespective of whether you have the trifecta ?

Also the b4 movement is now being referenced in the news over here, any indication of whether that is a flash in the pan or likely to remain a thing?

I have been fairly busy working this week but I saw a lot on this thread talk about algorithms on Twitter favoring Trump and swinging voters in his direction. I dont recall, but were there any posts about this in the weeks before Nov 5th?

IIRC, one Hillary Clinton blamed some Macedonian bot farms or whatever the fuck about her failed 2016 campaign.

If the Dems arent honest with themselves to a certain degree, they wont make gains in the 2026 misterms-if they are allowed to take place :-)

Both her and the party were in lock step leading up to the election. A more unified party you could never hope to have seen. Any time you saw Republicans it looked to me like a hostage video.

One thing they can do is court Republican members of Congress who are in vulnerable or marginal seats to go against the grain and try reign in Trumps agenda. If the administration is seen to be going too far in whatever it does, then these members might get voted out in the 2026 midterms-if they take place that is. Silly me.

The Republicans and trump have won big but I can see some scenarios where the tide might turn especially given the headwinds the administration will face given the state of the main stream media.

Deportations might get ugly and will be painted as downright ugly and mean. It doesnt matter if they start with the worst of the worst ie violent criminals, killers, drunk drivers, pimps, drug dealers etc.. hats wont be the narrative.

In some may discussions, the narrative will talk about how horrible we are treating immigrants. I think most fair minded people can delineate between legal and illegal immigrants. Most same people can also see the difference where CRIMINALS are concerned.

Yeah and how did it work out for them? They totally misread the room. Now look at them. They are just like when the Rags beat Leicester twice in a couple of weeks and appoint a new manager who actually beat The Mighty Blues.

A loss or draw at Ipswich and they will be at each others throats again like Bernie and Nancy!

Nothing really.

Even in the Transition period, Trump is trying to dictate things by saying Dem's shouldn't be allowed to make appointments in open positions, despite Trump's government making over 30 appointments after they lost the 2020 election (including Judge Aileen Cannon of the classified documents case).

He's also refusing to sign the updated Presidential Transition Act, which includes a whole raft of rules regarding donations to the transition fund, classified briefings and oversight of the transition of power.

Then there is reporting that he's told the Senate to be prepared for immediate recess in January, which essentially means he's free to make 'recess appointments' to key government positions without the need for Senate confirmation.

All sounds very 'dictotorial' in nature...

Makes it more difficult to blame the deep state, neoliberal elites, liberal judges etc etc when he fucks it all up. Won’t stop him trying and as long as he has his ministry of truth working properly led by Musk there’s more than a good chance he will continue to get away with it.
Maybe when people actually start dying because Obama care gets repealed and they can’t afford the replacement people will start to realise. Doubt it though.
He'll still blame everyone else and just lie through his teeth and his cult wont want to admit they were wrong so they'll believe him.
