UWCL v Barcelona (A) Wed 18-12-24 KO 17:45

Bit gutted I didn't catch all the game (in fact maybe 10 mins as a whole) but I saw a couple of highlights of Keating's saves. Seemed like she stopped a pure embarrassment. Reminded me of Big Harty's display against Barca, back in the day!

Anyway, from what I saw it seemed Taylor set the team out to contain.

The mistake was not starting Murphy, like I wanted, as she would have been a great outlet and would have helped stopped the Barca press.

Long pass into space for her to run on to? Come on, the game was there for that!

Keating made a few good saves, but I thought she could have done better with one of the goals, the 2nd there was more than a hint offside in the build up, and immediately before that we'd broken away and were pulled for an offside that was debateable.

Given the resources available, I'm not sure he could have done much more, Jess Park didn't have a great game, and was responsible for giving the ball away too often (unlike her), and Hasegaway was rather overwhelmed and without much support. Kennedy was poor, but I don't really rate her anyway, but needs must. A mistake just before half time prevented us going in at 0-0, all in all I thought as a team we mostly played OK.

Okay, cheers for that rundown. I'll try and find the game online.

From the snippets I saw, it just looked like the intention was to try and stem the tide, which is why I thought an outlet would have worked, to that end.

I think if the team plan and mindset was better, I think with lots of watchers saying that Keating was poor in the pass, she may have struggled to hit a ball to anyone trying to break the lines. Again, Murphy would have been awesome for this.

It might have given Hasegawa the space to perform, also. I dunno, I'm just spitballin' but let me look at the match at some point over the weekend.

Probably better, also missing Kelly and Miedema too. That's half the squad.

I thought Fujino looked good, got back well and helped Ouhabi, Lily Murphy also stood out, disappointed by Park for once, and Hasegawa didn't have ber best game, but she was over run at times.
The last two or three games they've been alright but not the sparkle we saw at the start of the season.

I'd agree, but I don't think the team as a whole have been as good, I think it's in part due to the injuries, all of who are key players in how we play.

Lets get them back, and see how we go, but barring a miracle I think the league has gone sadly (again).

Yeah even if we beat the Arse 'n CFC we\re still needing Chelsea to lose another game and they'd still win it on GD. The biggest absence? Can't think which one it would be! Lauren is devilish on the wing and can get you a goal anytime, Alex add immeasurable solidity to the back line if Heapswill is absent, and Bunny can not only hold up the ball and bring the rest of the team into the move, she can turn like David Silva and be away. They are all sorely missed.

I see the officials coming in for a lot of stick on here. Yes; really!
;-)

Now, I didn't watch the game. But from reading various reports online, it seems that Barcelona were miles better than City. The injuries clearly took their toll; losing 3 or 4 of your best players doesn't half make things difficult. Pep will vouch for that!
