UWCL v Barcelona (A) Wed 18-12-24 KO 17:45

I see the officials coming in for a lot of stick on here. Yes; really!
;-)

Now, I didn't watch the game. But from reading various reports online, it seems that Barcelona were miles better than City. The injuries clearly took their toll; losing 3 or 4 of your best players doesn't half make things difficult. Pep will vouch for that!
The officials weren't the reason we lost the game but it wouldn't have surprised me to see a video of them celebrating in the Barca dressing room afterwards. Very much in the home camp with every marginal decision being awarded to Barca. As you say though, they were the better team on the night ande deserved their win. Only Khiara's heroics (which I likened to Joe Hart vs Dortmund) kept the score semi-respectable.

Yup, we quite often complain about the number of goals we score compared to clear chances created...if the Barca girls had had there shooting boots on it could easily have been double figures last night. We badly missed our injured players, though I think they'd still have beaten they way they played last night

With Alanna being in the side it was always a tough ask to keep them out so not a surprising result. As other said 5-o would not have flattered them.

When we look back I think splitting the two games with Barca and winning all the others represents not a bad campaign. To go further we clearly need our best players fit plus a top quality addition or 2. We will not win anything with any centre back partnership that has Kennedy in it - she should only play in matches against weaker sides or be moved on. Her defending last night was comical and I really don't think it's a form thing as she has always been that way - Alex has covered a lot.

I have also noticed that Jess -who has played nearly every minute - has begun to lose possession cheaply - not just last night but at times in most recent games. Jess is a top prospect who scores fantastic goals but some of her all round play can be exposed against better opposition. I see her still having plenty of game time but she needs the odd game off.

We are a young side but to get to the next level we need top quality not more of the same. A new centre back is a must and perhaps a top midfielder to play alongside Jill and Yui - This is where Theresa will earn her £ so it will be interesting to watch who we go for.
