Putting the blue specs down for a moment. If I was Van Gaal, I would do the following.

No problems with De Gay

Work with Rafael, Jones, Evans and Smalling, but needs to buy Hummels and Shaw. (60 million) Do away with Evra and Rio. Too old and too vocal.

Use Mata, Kagawa and Januzaj with new signings like Vidal, Strootman or Kroos at a long shot, and bring in some real pace like Reus or Lucas Moura . Use Carrick and Fletcher as back up and sell Fellani and Cleverley.
Work with Van Persie and Rooney, but sell either Wellshit or Little piss for 20m and then sign Cavani who apparently is desperate to get out of PSG where he is playing second fiddle to Ibrahimovic.

In summary

Out - Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Fellani, Cleverley, Wellbeck or Hernandez = 60 million
In - Hummels, Shaw, Reus, Moura, and any one of Vidal, Strootman or Kroos. And Cavani.= 180 million

120m net spend.

How are they going to get £60 million for that shower of shite.

Vidic and Rio gone for fuck all and i'm sure Evra is the same, nobody will pay more than £15 million for Fellaini and Cleverly, wellbeck and Hernandez aren't going to generate another £45 million. (unless Steve Bruce or Ole buy them.)
