Boss "heres your new van"
me "thanks do i need to keep a record of my milage or has it got a tracker"
Boss" yes keep a record it hasnt got a tracker"
me "ok no problem"

fastforward two months i recieved a letter stating that i have a tracker on my van.

Maybe he sent the letter because he thought...

"shit, i lied to that really nice bloke, what with him being a fan of god's own club an all, how do i sort this mess out? Hmmm...i know...a letter. That will be ok. He won't mind a letter as long as it's on official headed paper. Everyone loves official headed paper. Sorted. I'll do that. Phew. I can sleep at night now".

it's just the way things are today

insurance is to blame, the company's are making it harder and harder to to make a claim - so these things tend to become a requirement

does it not mention that in your letter?

I track everyone of my vehicles, I need to know how fast they are driving if they are skiving and if it gets stolen I can be on the case, if you have nothing to hide it shouldn't bother you!
