Van won't start - Any ideas?

Given up on it.

AA won't let me upgrade now, Greenflag won't let me call them out until 24 hours after I join. Bunch of b@stards.

I think it's the battery mate. I have a spare one in my house, brand new paid £90 for it 2 weeks ago. I will come out to you, help you fit it, £70 all yours. You fancy giving it a go.'if it doesn't work then it doesn't matter no worries.

Scall, push it(or get it towed) round the corner from your house and call AA as someone else said, this will surely be the best option, they will fix it at side of road for you or at least give you a professional diagnoses.

if you need it for work in the morning then i feel your pain. If not, fuck it off and go to the pub.

The AA won't come within 1/4 mile of my house. Don't fancy pushing a fully laden van for 1/4 mile!

Rick - Got a mate coming round with jump leads and stuff. If it's the battery then I may take you up on the offer. To be honest, I may even take up the new battery anyway once I get it started. Where do you live? I'm in Heaton Moor.

Worsley, I'm off to wythenshawe in a minute to drop something off for someone. I would drop it off for you on the way back if you want but I need to know soon as I'm leaving in 5 mins so should I put the battery in? If it doesn't work with the new one in we will pop it back out and don't worry about it!!! I will pm you my phone number as I may have set off when you reply. Let me know what you want to do mate, I will come and drop it off no problem. Pm me your address, cheers.

On your way could you nip to mine and get rid of the snow on my drive. Thanks in advance.

Cheers rick, but as per my txt, a mate came round with a starter pack and the battery's got charge.

He tried starting it in 1st gear and it did move a foot or two whilst it was ticking over and that one little glug away from starting. The engine's ticking over, rattling (as per) but just stops at the final hurdle.

We've managed to haul it around the corner where the front of it is facing the sun. I'm hoping that it's going to thaw it out a bit and sort it out. Also got the battery on charge too.

Maybe the fuel pump's frozen up or something?

PARTIAL SUCCESS: Put the van in the sun, tried it and it fired up! Black smoke came out the back and it cut out after about a minute.

Fired it up again, press the accelerator and it died.

The coil light came up. Does this mean the coils are knackered or something?

Did it run for a full minute or was it more like 10/20 seconds? Did the glow plug light come on before or after it cut out? If you replaced the fuel filter and filled the filter housing with diesel it will run on the fuel in the filter housing and then cut out once the supply has run out which means your not getting any fuel through. When it ran you say it wouldn't accelerate? Would suggest there is no fuel pressure which also indicates no fuel getting through. Ice can accumulate anywhere you have water so any water in the tank or around the fuel pump could cause this problem. The fact it started at all indicates that everything is working in a sense but there is no fuel pressure. The glow plugs must be working or it wouldn't of started and the black smoke will just be the build up of diesel because you're continually cranking the engine - equivalent to flooding a petrol engine.
