Van won't start - Any ideas?

I've got an 06 Vauxhall Vivaro van.

Last drove it on Tuesday evening before heading off to Juve and tried starting it this morning, but it just won't start.

Tried warming up the coil jobbies that heat the fuel, that didn't work.

I've been charging the battery all day, still doesn't fix it.

There's about a quarter of a tank of diesel in it.

Any ideas what it could be? Might I need a new battery? Tried ringing the AA, but I don't have Homestart and they're going to charge me £90 to come out.

It's turning over and is that millisecond away from starting, but it doesn't does. It's chugging over but just lacks that little oomph to get going.

Can anyone help?

Very difficult to diagnose this sort of fault without actually seeing the vehicle but i have had half a dozen diesels lately with none start problems and i did a vivaro the other day. Although diesel doesn't freeze easily water does (sorry, don't mean to sound patronizing!), what you may find is that there is water in the diesel filter which has frozen 'cause of the extreme conditions and is stopping the diesel getting through, basically a fuel starvation problem. Do you know where to find your diesel fuel filter? (if so you can remove and thaw) If not, do you have a garage or somewhere to keep the vehicle that is heated? Try this first to thaw the ice and hopefully this may be all it is.

Hmmm very good advice. Will have a look for the buggar if I can.

Got £500 of plants that HAVE to be planted tomorrow, got apartments to grit etc.

Are you a herbalist that has purchased some new seedlings on your travels?

Not yet. Only just found the fuel filter. Disconnected it, drained the diesel off and just waiting an hour or two to let it warm up.

Erm, I've drained about 1/4 pint of Diesel off it, how does that get back into the filter? Don't want to put a drained filter back in and end up with a big load of air or something in the van and it feckin up the engine! shall I give it a few blasts of gas before I fire try firing her back up?

Mine did the same when I got back from Poland, new battery sorted it in the end. Seems your problem is a little more complicated though, good luck.
