VAR - 2020/21

Ok. Let’s imagine no VAR.

Salah does a ridiculous dive against Man City. Ref gives a penalty

‘’the games corrupt , never watching it again ‘‘

Salah is miles offside. Goes through and scores.

‘’ the games corrupt. Never watching it again’’

Van Dijk elbows Sterling in the face as hard as possible and on purpose. The ref doesn’t spot it.

‘’The games corrupt. Never watching it again’’

All the above examples were happening before VAR.

It became so farcical that eventually we needed technology to help refs.

VAR has no way been great, it still has it flaws. But it’s way better than a ref guessing on decisions he didn’t see.
Which is exactly what is happening with VAR.

Its as if there were a couple of stupid handball decisions last weekend so this week they've said ease off a bit on the VAR button. Oh and don't play an extra 10 mins in the Utd game until they win. To be fair a game away to last years division 1 champions was always tough. 1-1 not bad for a team missing so many

The handball interpretation has been relaxed a bit, not a VAR change.

this season, show me one example of a clear dive Liverpool have won a penalty, show me one example where liverpool have scored a goal clearly offside ...

by now without VAR they would have had a few of the above

The problem with VAR is who is using it. It's someone who is useless on the field and even more useless sat at Stockley Park. Some of the VAR stuff this season has been utterly unbelievable i.e. Mane, Brighton penalty overturned, Maddison and Vardy pens against us, various handballs given or not given etc etc

It's also the technology. The system used for offside does not have the frame rate to accurately predict the precise moment the ball was played and gives a margin of error which is then subject to interpretation by the VAR officials. This means a close offside decision could 'legitimately' be give either way.

One of the commentators on Saturday said something like 'that would have been given last weekend' and it sounds so wrong. It seems to suggest making up the rules as you go along and to suit certain teams are somehow normal and ok.

The panjandrums running the PL are happy. They are faceless and not accountable to the fans.
