VAR - 2020/21

If you listened to Peter Waltons opinion on Saturday about the Brighton last minute pen v Liverpool then you would have heard similar bullshit. When the incident occurred Peter Walton was wheeled out. He claimed no pen and doubted VAR would even look. But VAR did look and the pen was awarded when the ref saw the monitor.

After the game Peter Walton, sweating like an ant under a magnifying glass, bumbled on about a "clear and obvious error". His contradictory convoluted circular argument eventually petered out into nothing as he disappeared up his own arse hole.

Peter Walton - stealing a living throughout his lifetime.

Lineker asked him at HT (or maybe it was FT, I can't remember and I've got no VAR to go back and check) to clarify his understanding of the rules saying that he believed the rules were that VAR could only check for specific things, namely red card offences missed by the officials, and not for other things, such as issuing yellow cards/second yellow cards ...etc. (which was and still is my understanding as well).

Walton, visibly sweating like an ant under a magnifying glass, bumbled on about VAR not telling the ref to issue a yellow, but simply to go and have a look at the incident, and that it was obviously the ref's opinion that it wasn't worthy of a red and so issued a yellow, which he then said was his prerogative, or other such bollocks, then ending the discussion with a definitive, "so no Gary, he wasn't wrong".

I have never heard such bullshit in all my life.
Cant believe BT Sports actually pay for this insight off these clowns. They may as well say ' So, Peter/Dermot/Mike/any other fucker, how would you have got that wrong but put it into words so we can all shake our heads at it please

It was a binary decision: Did he make contact with his head; yes or no.

If yes, it's deemed as violent conduct and there is only a single course of action, a Red card.

What transpired was a farce, and Walton was complicit in the cover up.
Binary, yes, but not how you describe it. The law even says attempting to strike an opponent is the same as actually striking an opponent. It is the intent that matters. The referee might, just have a get out by saying the force was negligible, but such a claim would be ridiculous.

So throwing a punch but missing carries the same punishment as throwing a punch and connecting. Both a red card. Attempting a head butt is the same as committing a head butt. Both are red card offences.

Where the referee has no excuse is in the fact that he reviewed the incident on the screen, then came back to issue a yellow card. The law clearly does not allow this. Furthermore, had he not issued a yellow card to Fred, UEFA could have taken retrospective action for a missed incident, but that is a moot point now.

This was discussed briefly a few posts back, when Linekar was reported to have pointed this out to Walton, who showed his ignorance of the laws by saying the referee was correct because it was his opinion. Anything Walton says should be disregarded, as he clearly hasn't kept up to date with the laws.

That's the point I was trying to make, Lineker knew the rule/law, Walton clearly either didn't or, as I am inclined to believe, simply chose to bullshit his way around it to vindicate his standpoint, which tells you all you really need to know about him and about referees in general.

We all know it should've been a red card, we all know why it wasn't a red card, and we all know which other team are probably the only other English team who'd get away with such an action.

BBC showing a poll of only 2,100 fans and even that few don’t like it. The survey was obviously done in London as only Arsenal, Chelsea, Scum and “Bus Wreckers” were included.

They should get a good few thousand of us match going Blues to answer their poll, I feel the numbers wanting it scrapped in its present form would be far higher,

Football before VAR was corrupt, with VAR it's a fucking pantomime.

well this is the crux of it.

Do we go back to when many perceive football as corrupt and being outraged by officials allowing players to dive with zero contact for penalty’s , allowing players who are clearly miles offside to score, allow players to get away with leg breaking tackles and off the ball incidences

Or do we find a way to use VAR without it being too pantomime, surely we can look at ways to change the laws rather than blame VAR which ultimately is just there for the referee to take a clearer look at what he missed.

I really believe we must continue improving VAR rather than binning it and going back to when football was ‘corrupt’ and the many farcical decisions that seem to have been forgotten nowadays.

I do stress I am not a VAR ‘lover’ I just think it can and should improve the game over time, unfortunately too many are in the mindset of being against VAR - even when it has (on many occasions) helped give the right decisions.

Unless you play in Red......

Liverpool fans may agree with their captain when you look at the stats. Jurgen Klopp's side have had more goals disallowed by VAR than any other Premier League team in the 2020-21 season so far.

The poll shows just 28% of Liverpool fans believe VAR is being applied consistently, as do 31% of Manchester United fans,

But this is the same old argument we've been having since it all started: VAR itself is not the issue, rather it's the way it's being used and (dare I say it) 'manipulated' by those in charge. If we had a clear and honest approach to the game most fans would be in favour of VAR, but the way it is being used to ensure the redshirts get the required result is insulting us football fans.
No transparency, none whatsoever. When Premier league managers and TV pundits don't know what the fuck is going with handballs, offsides, dangerous play and so on, the game is in very deep trouble.

We pay our money, we should all be able to attend a game against the cartel teams not thinking the ref and/pigmol have already decided how we are going to lose.
And until that happens more and more people will be staying away from the games, Covid 19 or not.

So in 2 European nights we've seen the cheating clown Paredes go down comically when he fronted up that monolith Fred, who basically just moved his head as if to say "Get the fuck out of my face". Cue squealing and rolling around in the foetal position holding his face. FFS, I've had a bigger clout in a Kebab house than that, and that was off the girlfriend back in the day.

Then last night MickyTarian was at it with the feigned hands to face death roll when he got a slight shove and attempted nose flick whilst shielding the ball on the byline.
This is the shit VAR should be scrutinizing, by all means the ref should send off the aggressor but only when HE has had a look at the monitor to determine if he feels it is warranted, if not book the fucking pair of them for 'handbags'.

While we're at it, BeIN (as the UK shithouses wouldn't have the cojones to do it) should have a special end of season award for the most theatrical performance when feigning a non-injury. A 2 hour montage of all the usual suspects/divers and con merchants would be fantastic viewing for all, and who knows, it might clean the game up slightly if these prima donnas appeared worldwide and were shown for the shithouses that they are.
Sorry, another mini rant. I seem to be developing anger management issues...

I have seen this footage many times before and remember the match at the time. There can be no other explanation for this other than it was a corrupt game. The United players knew what they were doing and seemed aware they have been given a free licence to foul.
This match was the moment I knew for sure that some officials were corrupt. I am not a conspiracy theorist and don't believe the entire game is corrupt but there clearly have been specific instances involving specific officials.
The fact that Mike Riley is in charge of VAR says it all. It is also interesting to see how complicit the broadcast commentators were (especially Tyler) in what happened during this match.
