Var debate 2019/20

A lot of people mentioning the controversy VAR is but most of the time all it is doing is correcting a decision.

what is more controversial- a player diving and winning a penalty or a quick review to see that the player has dived so no penalty given ?

yet once this correct verdict comes in everyone loses their shit and say how much it’s killing the game!

The worlds gone mad.

you still one of the very few, probably in the world still backing this shite?

The bottom line for offside is its usually correct. The part which is open to debate is the part of the body they are judging it on and which frame they are using..... Someone's armpit ffs!

Horse racing must use a very high fps camera to see who wins a race and so I'd say it has to be a very high speed 16k camera used.

It should be their feet only and a computer should be able to flash up on the big screen instantly if it's offside or not be used for offsides at all.

All this 'can we celebrate yet' bullshit has got to go.

The game has been littered with players scoring with their armpit! Good job we didn't have VAR when Rush or Imbrahimovic were playing or their nose would have been offsde via VAR every time!

I’m not completely thrilled with it and agree on a lot of the points some have given, especially the reviews for goals which take away that initial excitement, also not happy they completely rushed it in, always stated they should have just used VAR for pen decision. Then next season offside decisions etc. Slow implementation.

what I do like however...

If a player dives in the area, it will be reviewed and no longer can a ref just point to a spot for a penalty.

same for clear offsides.

how many times did Liverpool have ‘Clear’ offsides given last season, and same for how many times Salah won penalty’s by diving.
VAR at least gives a chance for this to be reduced and eventually eradicated. Admittedly there is still to many grey areas and contentious decisions but going back to a ref left to just make a blind guess with the speed of the game and constant cheating by players when there is technological help out there doesn’t make sense to me - it has to be the way forward however long it takes.

that would be great if they used it properly then. Mane had dived endlessly this season. Been booked once I believe. We’ve had many stonewall ones reviewed and not given. It’s not fit for purpose, it’s not the same for everyone and most importantly, like you’ve already mentioned, it’s killing the sheer love, emotion and euphoria from the game. Laws used to come in to make the game more entertaining, advantage to the attacker etc. Now they’re trying their hardest to find any way to rule a goal out. Shite

If we didn't have it then we'd be back complaining that 'that was a red card' or 'that was a foul' every game and complaining that the ref got it wrong.

The system is usually right, the offside calls are usually correct but the way the rules are interpreted are shite.

I think everyone would be a lot more accepting of a refs decision now. I’d certainly accept a ref getting something wrong in a split second, than someone reviewing it for 3 minutes and then still getting it wrong?

Ha, ''a quick review''...., like it.

i think this is a fair assessment.

could you imagine next season with VAR scrapped. Salah does a ridiculous dive with no contact (which would happen a lot) and the ref points to the spot. Would fans really be ok with that knowing we now have the technology for it to be reviewed

They are still giving them penalties!! That’s the point. The technology is here and they refuse to use it properly
