Var debate 2019/20

This question of whether there was an issue with VAT today is an interesting one.

If there was a problem then the game should have been delayed or postponed in exactly the same way it would be if the pitch was deemed unplayable or the floodlights went out. The powers that be have specified that VAR is to be used in all matches in certain competitions the Prem being one of them. Therefore if it is not used then the game is being played under different rules to all the other games in the competition...I wonder what Chelsea and Leicester fans will make of today as the result affects them as much as it does us.

Then again Leicester left there having been done over too. Hard to make a case against Liverpool being given every assistance by the powers that be.

Mind you I do despair at our powers that be who seem to take it up the shitter time and time again without response.

The mane push on Sterling is as blatant as it gets.

I can give Oliver a pass on this as there were x2 defenders to watch and most refs are following the feet for contact and not the hands.

However, VAR can see quite clearly that Mane is not goal side of Sterling and when he pushed Sterling it's in no way a legitimate attempt

to play the ball as the ball is in front of Sterling, who is in front of Mane.

The first goal penalty appeal should have been given by Oliver. The fact that the ball rebounds off his arm back into his midriff eg towards

the goal would indicate that when the ball hit his arm his arm must have been well beyond his normal silhouette. If his arm had been by his

side close to his body eg vertical and not wide horizontal, then the ball would have deflected away from goal and not back into his abdomen.

If he had given it, even if VAR overturned or even if we had missed the penalty then at least Liverpool would not have gained from a handball

in the run up to their opening goal. The later penalty appeal for handball I dont think could have been given as the defender is close to the

ball when struck and his arm is more vertical and down than in a raised or in a horizontal position.

Much quicker. All our 'marginal' offside decisions have taken AT LEAST 2 minutes to resolve, if not more. That one was done an dusted inside 15 seconds.

Indeed mate. Fastest VAR decisions I've seen all season. Hardly any replays, hardly any debate amongst the commentators.

Given the magnitude of the fixture the lack of discussion was very bizarre.

VAT has always been a **** not just today.

There is more than a whiff of corruption hanging over todays game, and nothing I have seen or heard since convinces me otherwise.

Watching motd it was pointed out his arm was down by his side when it hit bernie but when the ball went towards him he lifted his arm,he wasn't moving/jumping,he had no reason to put his arm up,it's so clear,it was a choice var ref made

That's because it wasn't VAR.

It was sky and Neville was under instruction.

I thought Shearer was remarkably clear in his opinion that it was a penalty, and neither Crouch not Chapman offered anything to counter it.

Says a lot when none of the Sky or BBC pundits could defend the referee and VAR decision not to award a penalty...and half of the pundits had played for the scouse vermin.
Bent.
Am falling out of love with the game I have loved for 50 yrs...
