Var debate 2019/20

Thought the disallowed goal looked more legitimate than the one allowed after that which looked a bit offside lol. But what do I know

Can they not continually have an IT system which continually checks whether a player is offside. Should be possible with digital technology. Measuring pixels across a screen
Ai has come a long way . It’s crazy what it can achieve and execute perfectly .

For goal line technology, yes.

For every single aspect of football? No. Otherwise why bother having any officials at all besides the referee?

I think a lot more transparency is needed on how it works. It will also probably take a few seasons to iron out any issues with it. But something tells me it will probably get scrapped at the end of the season.

Am I mistaken, or was the defenders arse what played him onside on his second when everyone thought he WAS offside?! Haha!

The biggest flaw for me is how do VAR know exactly when to freeze frame on the pass. There's no way they can pinpoint the exact moment that the ball leaves the boot.

On such marginal calls like the one today they could be pausing the action a fraction of a second later and in a different game pausing it a fraction of a second earlier, and that could be the difference between the player being offside or not.

I'm all for clear offside goals being disallowed but there's going to be a lot of inconsistency on marginal calls.

There also needs to be a tolerance. No measurement is exact. In the aircraft industry, quarter inch holes typically have a tolerance of 4 thou. It sounds silly but surely it's logical if VAR claims to measure in mm?
That’s the point. We are using technology and it should be flawless. If var wants to go in minute nano details then it has to be done in way where there’s no question asked . Today they are depending on line drawn from the front .

Those complaining about var will soon change thier mind when the decision goes our way.
If var was in place in the champions league for the game against Liverpool a couple of years ago, we would have gone through.

I'm sure someone will be along to say it was in place for the Spurs handball goal!

I'd agree but that offside doesn't even get checked by VAR when they score it. Wait and see.

The VAR for Balotellis shoulder...sorry Sterlings shoulder is an interesting one?

Outstretched boot, head, backside, knee all extremities but end of the arm to shoulder? baggy shirt, tight shirt?

Where do you draw the line...? Wherever the VAR guy wants to obviously.......

I understand onfield ref isnt involved for "factual" decisions eg in or outside of the box for a penalty or encroachment

and for offside. However, the sterling offside is an interpretation of where the arm stops and shoulder starts, so in

effect its subjective, so really should be tossed back to the onfield ref for his view, as it's his view that should be called

upon for, just as in other subjective decisions, eg possible handall or foul would be reviewed by him/her for penalty decision?
