Just saw/heard the audio of the incident in the Forest-Everton match that Webb admitted should have been a penalty.
You have both the referee getting the on-pitch decision wrong (saying that the Everton player played the ball, which he didn’t, he went through the back of the foot of the Forest player) and the VAR getting their review wrong.
VAR watches many replays of the incident from many angles, seeing the player didn’t play the ball, and not only never tells the referee that the Everton player didn’t play the ball, but trying to saw that both players were tussling for the ball, despite the video replays, from every angle, showing no evidence of that, only evidence of the Everton player coming in from behind and both barging the upper back and kicking the back of the Forest player’s leg in the box.
Referee seeing something that didn’t happen in real time (forgivable), followed by the VAR seeing something that didn’t happen with the benefit of slow motion replays from five different angles (unforgivable).
And you wonder why so many fans have such little confidence in referees or VAR.
