This is the problem, the way it has been used and fiddled about with has left many against it.
Yet watch a world cup or Seria A(now with refcams), or AFCON and you see it used effectively, then go to a game here and get deflated by it being implemented poorly.

Sort out the bloody offside rule and VAR will be much easier to use

I think linesmen are generally pretty good at offsides.
It’s the soft hand balls and penalties for people falling over at the slightest touch I hate.
But the main reason for getting rid is the delays and the lack of certainty over goals until the restart

I was dead set against VAR when it came in. Still leaning to being so but(!) it does deliver the right outcome in the event of howlers - especially offsides and missed penalties.

The issue with it is the implementation of it rather than the actual thing itself.

Offsides? Fuck the line drawing off - change the rule, bring in an automated system as they do in the Champions League. It’s quicker and non-subjective.

And let the fans inside the stadium know what’s going on!! Audio, video, everything.

VAR in the right hands can and should work. Needs to be more transparency when decisions are made. The cameras used to determine offside need to be technically capable of doing that. Some camera experts have said the current cameras not sophisticated enough to be properly accurate for offside decisions. I think there are plans to improve the technology? Scrapping it means we are going back to humans who are prone to errors when the game is played at a fast pace. If we lost a big game because of human error we'd be pissed off.

The other issue is some situations are grey and could be called either way. But, the ref has to make a decision. Its tough.

Totally understand the concerns with VAR though. Especially when having to wait for a goal to be checked.

No doubt the grown ups will sort it out.

When certain clubs are allowed to not bother to install all necessary pitchside cameras or even choose to not have big screens for replays etc

well VAR will never be ballanced as certain refs can hide behind it or use it as a kop out

Controversial view here. I hate VAR with a passion and I have thought about stopping going because if it.

The people who run VAR are in the main the same people that ref our games on the pitch so in any event the standard of refereeing is very poor.

I actually think CL refs are decent in the main and VAR seems to be managed much more smoothly.

Why do prem clubs not put money into training full time refs and ensuring they have the right skills to manage our games. The games are on a world wide stage with millions watching and more importantly millions of pounds getting made. It would cost a snippet of revenue to set up fund and would ensure there is trust in the people who officiate are games because they get the right training and focus on it being a career.

Seems a kop out to get rid of it completely.

What’s needed is more transparency, we should play the audio like in rugby where the crowd in the stadium know what’s going on.

I am surprised you think offsides are non-contentious. They are the decisions that lead to the most delay, confusion and disallowed goals for hardly any reason whatsoever.

Weirdly, I like what Webb has done with accepting referees' decisions unless there really is a clear and obvious error. Giving control back to the on-field officials but with the ability to correct clear and obvious errors. I would like to see the same for offsides. Forget 100% accuracy and offsides as a matter of fact.

The semi-automated technology which is supposed to be coming in next season works far better. It takes seconds to come to a decision. If they could implement that next season that should see the end of the drawing lines on the pitch nonsense.

No. Clearer rules. Daylight for offside. Clear directions on handball by visual examples. A timekeeper to allow the ref to ref. Decision within 60 seconds.
