VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Diaz with a pathetic dive for Liverpool, pundit on Soccer Saturday shouted 'that's definitely a penalty!!'' then he saw a replay and said 'nope, never a penalty' , Ref didn't give it. Probably would have done prior VAR.
So ref got it right without VAR?
You plum (as per).

Norway on verge of abolishing VAR from domestic leagues after club vote

A majority of clubs (19 out of 32) voted on scrap VAR

Norsk Topfotball’s clubs passed a motion that “requests that the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) board recommend, and that the federal assembly adopts, the discontinuation of video-assisted refereeing as soon as possible”. Their verdict will now be handed to the NFF ahead of a meeting in the first week of March at which every club in Norway, including those at much lower levels, will take a final vote on the future of VAR.

Protests against VAR have been common in Norway since it was introduced two years ago, with one high-profile occurrence being a match between Rosenborg and Lillestrøm which abandoned in July after fish cakes and smoke bombs were thrown on to the pitch.

Norway could become the 2nd Scandinavia country to scrap VAR following Sweden's rejection of the system.

The fan outrage over the system has been relentless since the system was introduced. Norwegian fans commonly throw tennis balls and fish cakes on the pitch during VAR reviews.

"You're here to talk about VAR?," Mykle, a pint of lager in one hand and jabbing his finger with the other, said. "It's all bulls---: nobody wants it here."

This is Norway, ranked the seventh-happiest country in the world earlier this year by the World Population Review, and usually a place where life occurs in relative serenity. But VAR (Video Assistant Referee) has given many Norwegians something to get angry about. So angry, in fact, that they have taken to disrupting professional football games by throwing objects onto the pitch in what have become almost weekly protests against VAR.

Matchdays have become a scene in which fans throw fishcakes, champagne corks and croissants onto the pitch against what they perceive to be the invasive technology of VAR. Why? Because a growing number of Norwegian football supporters -- along with players and executives -- want Norway to scrap VAR and, in doing so, become the first country in the world to ditch the controversial system.

What's the latest on SAOT being used in the Premier League? They were supposed to implement it during the season but it's since gone very, very quiet on that front.

Do we get an announcement in the near future that the system will be used from the start of the 25/26 season or are they backtracking and prefer to decide tight offsides by drawing lines?

They have said it won't be ready this season due to "teething problems "

State of this mess when they show VAR in action it appears to be far more an expert set up can’t believe they only have the four screens don’t even meet digital screen requirements

This thread is getting pointless. Posters highlight how shite Pigmol are with 2nd rate equipment and then certain posters come on and defend it to the hilt.
When the entire world saw the shite yesterday there is no comment from them. Are they waiting for someone to post before they reply ?
Why can't they have the balls to come on first, hold there hands up and say yes it's shite ?

What particular moment? Marmoush?

Re Arsenal sending off. He just went to leg him up as per the usual tactical foul but unfortunately he ended up with his studs against his ankle. I’m sure he didn’t mean to do that, but because it was definitely a deliberate foul and studs in ankle, he had to go. Harsh, but if he hadn’t deliberately tried to foul him he wouldn’t have been sent off

No the one everyone is talking about. The Arsenal player who was sent off.
It wasn't a last man situation and they have now come out with violent conduct. Bollocks.
It was an appalling decision that Var should have intervened on but they didn't. They sat there eating cream cakes and reading the Beano annual.

Where are the Var apologists who are desperate to tell us over and over again that it's a great system.
They never post first.
