VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

If you ever needed a better advert for fucking VAR off, you couldn’t have wished for a more perfect match than that.
It’s fucking killed the game.
Blue Hammer - you can kiss my ball bag

4 minutes that new and improved var shit show took to decide there was absolutely nothing wrong with the goal.
No wonder fans think there is a conspiracy to chalk off our goals.
Apparently, and I've had to read the bbc report to find out what they were looking at, it was for offside.
No one could be arsed telling me that in the ground.
4 fucking minutes, that west ham wum wanker can fuck off and take var with him.

Have I mentioned Var can fuck off ?

The report I read doesn’t even mention the delay.

Was there some explanations of what they were looking at exactly and why it took so long?

My take is that the semi-automated tech didn't flag it as offside but because it looked tight in real time the VAR officials decided to take a closer look. It isn't VAR itself that is the problem, it's the human element that fucks it up with 3 or 4 minute delays.

Not sure it works like that. The whole point of SAOT is it can supposedly tell within a very short space of time if there’s an offside, with no margin of error.

Was there somebody in an offside position who didn’t touch the ball that they may have been debating was interfering or not?

No, the debate was whether Haaland was level with or behind the ball when Gvardiol played it, after the match I saw an image from VAR showing that Haaland was behind the ball. The assistant didn't flag so SAOT didn't register an offside, it had to be human intervention.

No. Not one Madrid player complained and the teams lined up to take kick off only to be halted by the ref.
That was the first the crowd knew about Var involvement. Eventually the big screens put a message up that they were checking the goal. It didn't say for what.
I've read it took 4 minutes it seemed a lot longer. It is disgraceful that match going fans are kept in the dark.
Some thought the check was for handball or offside. No one knew.
I think it's the Guardian are now saying that's what 'caused' Grealish to go off. He was playing on after a knock but standing around for 4 minutes meant it seized up.

If this is semi automated it needs to go in the bin.

Anyone that thinks VAR hasn’t killed the reason we all go, namely, to go ballistic when a goal is scored, please fuck off and invite @BlueHammer85 round to watch replays of the Super Bowl. You deserve each other.

No, killing the game is watching Man Utd scoring offside goals, Newcastle celebrating a goal that didn't cross the line, Orient commiting a red card tackle against City and going unpunished - what is wrong with wanting some tech help for Refs to correct these decisions ??

You just seem happy with farcical decisions forever and keeping it that way.

I'm frustrated as anyone when there's still wrong decisions after VAR review or if the wait is to long - but i'll always support the use of VAR to help make the game fairer and rule out less injustices.

I was at the match so perhaps someone sat in the comfort of their living room can tell me what the fuck was going on for our first goal.

If a decision can't be made within 30 seconds Var should be ignored.
I still do not know what they were checking, they couldn't be arsed telling us.
Match going fans are sick of it
i was in my front room and had no idea..

Fairish comment

Au contraire mon amis. The decisions you mention didn't 'kill' anything.

Tell that to those Leicester fans who travelled to Old Trafford to get knocked out the Cup by an offside goal in the last minute - they should just suck it up ? And they can take solace that those Man Utd fans can celebrate ‘properly’.

Lets not forget this was happening week in week out before VAR and whilst we all have nostalgia looking back at the good old days I can recall most of the time being pissed off with the officials and even more pissed off finding out later that they got it completely wrong.

Aww, poor little leicester fans.
How about they, and everyone else, grow some balls and take it on the chin? This is sport and its not always fair. Never was and never will be even if we var every shot, flick or kick.
Let's not forget football survived perfectly well for the 150 years before var. In fact it grew into the most popular sport on the planet.

I cant see what the wum is spouting so has he any wonderful insight as to why I was sat there for 4 minutes plus not knowing what his wonderful semi automated, far better than the shitty Premier League one, Var were looking at last night ?
I've yet to find anyone, even those watching at home, who can tell me.

The winner by Maguire last week is not controversial because there was no Var, it's because a linesman is so poor at his job he missed it.

If 5he new Var can't do it's job what is the point of it.
If they can't be arsed telling people at the match or at home what they are looking at what's the point of it ?

It's shit and I'm sick of it

At least you had a big screen to not tell you what they were checking.

I must be in one of the few spots that can’t see any of them.

Go and watch the women’s doubles at Wimbledon where you can wank yourself into a Hawkeye frenzy.
Leave the football to those with a pair.
