VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Because the ref blew his whistle thinking that the GK had grasped it and then had it kicked out. Similarly to why they instruct linos to keep the flag down, once a whistle is blown, VAR does not allow itself to correct anything that happens beyond that point in time.

But why did the ref blow ? Ever goal is checked by var so allow play. Or yet another case of the ref not following the rules, similar to the final last week

Either you've got some form of autism so you struggle to understand when someone is taking the piss.
Or you don't know when to quit when you're behind and like to compile walls of text chatting nonsense.

Please give us a break for a bit.

I know he was being sarcastic but ironically he was describing why fans object to goals being disallowed on the margins. So even in his sarcasm it was an agreeable point. As for the goal-line technology comparison, that was more of a stretch as I pointed out that it's quite different in nature in that fans aren't initially under the impression that a goal has been scored.

He thought the keeper had control of it and then had it kicked out. Turns out the keeper never had it. The reasoning for why it couldn't be corrected by VAR is that players are trained to play "until the whistle is blown" so the goal was scored after play had already been stopped if you will.

Crikey.

Not attacking the messenger but What absolute drivel when they check every goal when teams are lined up for restart. Ref not blown in all those instances?

Yea I know that my point is let play continue and var check the goal. So a ref fucks up again and var can't do anything about it.

Probably instinct. Years of programming to blow up for what he deems to be a foul or an infringement. He'll hold his hands up afterwards but for Villa that is just too late.

Knowing all goals are checked he didn't need to blow. Villa could argue that has cost the club millions in lost cl games. The question is are refs meant to blow or allow play on with the goal being checked. I don't know what the rules are.

Some linesman flag early some linesman don't flag, it really is a mess

This was the year that VAR proved itself to be vital to the enjoyment and integrity of football.

Today at the swamp it was proved why Var should be fucked off.
The wanker in the middle who probably cost Villa a Champs League place by his stupidity will no doubt be on Var duties next season still being stupid.

They are simply not good enough.

It was 100% the ref's mistake though wasn't it?

I think refs in those situations (where the keeper is pressured into losing the ball), if they are sure there's a foul, will want to whistle quickly, so there's no goal to disallow. In this case he was possibly a little unlucky in that the goalkeepers weird handling meant the decision turned out to be really clear cut.

I don’t get this logic at all. Surely this situation is just proving 100% that people will moan like fuck about needing VAR when it suits them.

Today we’ve seen exactly what people have been clamouring for. A return to VAR not getting involved in decisions.

Or do people not want that now? It’s hard for me to keep up.

The refs are going to have their whistles taken away from them at this rate.

Yes it was the refs mistake, some might say monumental fuck up and next season he will be in a Var cabin still fucking up.
The machine they operate isn't the problem, it's the wankers operating it.

It's both, not the machinery per se but the design of the system. And all this has had a negative effect on the referee's decision-making. The refs have had VAR so thoroughly ingrained into them they can hardly think straight anymore.

How the fuck is football suppose to operate when the decisions that involve VAR are still so obviously false?! I will never get over the fucking pathetic call at Wembley last weekend and the calls made at the swamp today is yet another reminder that the officials in English football are either at best incompetent or at worse corrupt.
