The reason why Slot's argument is nonsense according the laws, if the player takes an evasive action in the ball's flight path he's offside as he's impacting the goalkeepers decision making, whether he'd get there or not.
Some might like that, some might not.
In a way I'm glad that's how it's ruled as I want the league to get away from this stupid set piece culture.
In the Forest United match a similar evasive action was taken but offsides wasn't given there. If it's interference in one it could certainly be argued to be in the other, but I don't think most fans understand the way in which these decisions are actually made. They're in this quagmire of not being able to make a decision about offsides that involve interference situations during VAR reviews because of how subjective they are. So they are essentially (it would seem) defaulting to whatever the on-field decision was, which in this case wasn't made until the celebration had already been going on for the goal. This more than anything else has created the controversy here. Meaning the fact that the on-field decision didn't come as it would when it would created confusion and controversy in a way that wouldn't have been otherwise. Because, of course, the flag didn't go up then and there as it would before you would start celebrating after a goal.
When you say according to the laws, I'm not sure what that means anymore because many laws on the books aren't being enforced anymore and have been replaced with VAR-related concepts for how to make decisions. As a fan I don't have any problem with that being a goal or disallowed, it's frankly one of those 50/50 type subjective situations that could be said to be interference or not. But to have it appear to be a goal due to the usual referee and lino on field inaction only for the flag to come up during a goal celebration, this is embarrassing and a sign of how dysfunctional and disruptive VAR is. The problem I have with VAR and situations like this is that it takes away from the match. Had that goal stood it may have turned into a barnburner instead it turned into a one-sided match and now 'pool fans feel undone by the decision. The decision itself was a tight one and a subjective one but no one should ever have their goal celebration interrupted like that.
