VAR Discussion Thread

A subjective, human based decision will always be that, whether it's in real time or slowed down. Video replays maybe provide more evidence but slowing things down sometimes over exagerates contact. VAR (should) help with the more factual decisions, like ball crossing the line and offsides (within a small degree of tolerance).

Although there are more natural breaks in these sports, football should maybe follow the example in cricket and the NFL, that the coaches / captains should have (say 2) number of VAR appeals per half. Once they are used up, everyone has to abide by the on-field decisions.

IMO this endless checking has destroyed the natural flow of the sport and even with the VAR, we still get outrageous cock-ups.

Please no, can you imagine how these would be used and the time it would take? Just get rid of VAR it's not delivered what was promised so what is the point of it?

Would happily scrap it, but I think that horse has already bolted. So just a halfway house suggestion and it would restrict the maximum number of times it could be used

In terms of justifying it's existence, I'm sure PIGMOL have lots of stats to back it up and say that they are getting more decisions right

Of course they will as they judge whether they get it right or wrong…. It’s a fucking farce how deliberate it is. May as well fuck it off if they are gonna cheat like they used to.

Tribalism and paranoia aside, the initial attraction of VAR was that it would increase consistency and remove the whole concept of "these poor decisions balance out over a season" which we all knew was bollocks anyway

However, rather than just focus on the infamous Maradona and Joe Jordan handballs, it would also find a potential infringement for 30% of every goal that's ever been scored, some of which would be allowed, and some disallowed

Inconsistency on a grander scale.

The photo that proves VAR was wrong. How did the goalie jump ahead and how is Haaland impeding the defender in the microsecond after Semenyo hit the ball?

"BBC Sport understands that the discrepancy lies in the choice of frame by the broadcaster.

The VAR selected the frame when Bradley first made contact with the ball, not when it left his foot.

The broadcaster froze the picture one frame later which gave the impression Wirtz was more obviously offside."

Sure sure. When you can select the frame, it's just another chance to manipulate a result. Honestly, it's seemingly impossible to ruin something so fucking good as football - and yet here they are...
