VAR Discussion Thread

I knew they wouldn’t send him off just like I knew Henderson wouldn’t go in the final just like I knew Semenyo’s would be disallowed just like I knew the Fernandes goal a few years ago would be given……the list is endless and it’s clear what is going on. Pep alluded to the club knowing the other day. This isn’t tin foil hat stuff,it’s happening.
Agreed. There are far too many games where City are screwed over by VAR.

And yet we do fückall about it.
If I had as much money I’d have the whole shit show investigated, and bring em down.
I can’t deal with corruption.
Is it corruption or incompetence or both? Is it simple "tunnel vision" and not seeing the forest for the trees. Was it is about VAR and do you think what happened with the NFL in 1991 could happen to VAR in the PL? Could its eroding of confidence year after year lead to a VAR fatigue and owners to decide to scrap it at some point? How likely do you think that is given the direction this is going in?

Investigate pigmol and the referees, they give the decisions like today’s non red in the first place.

Another distinction of the NPB system is that in most cases, there is no explanation needed, following the review, it is a simple fist (for out) or safe. On occasion there will be a complicated situation in which an announcement is given, but it is not in the NFL style, it has the impression of a PA announcement. I think we can all agree that one of the more egregious recent elements of VAR is the NFL style announcements. This is sacrilege both from a British and from an American perspective. It is one of the unique American elements, the referee announcements, for penalties, and reviews in some cases in NFL/NCAA. But such an announcement for anything, in the format of an NFL penalty or review announcement, is a foreign concept in football, otherwise known as Association football.

From the British perspective, such an announcement has no place in a football match. This is a non-American entity (FIFA) trying to push an Americanized version of another sport's video review system on to it, with caveats and inconvenient "solutions" to inherent problems of trying to do this in such a sport. I would much prefer an NPB themed review system compared to VAR, something local to the officials on the pitch, as a result of a manager's challenge in this system. There are no such 3rd party allowed to intervene. It seems that neither NFL Jr (NCAA) or VAR has learned this lesson, of why NFL switched from this way to a coaches challenge system and why that is more acceptable.

What can we realistically expect to occur? Is VAR truly here to stay or will it one day reach a breaking point that will cause the PL owners to vote as the NFL owners did in 1991? It's certainly in the realm of possibility.

Another fun fact about why the NFL decided to re-implement a review system, in 1999, this time packaged as the coaches challenge system was due to a goal-line situation in December 1998, anotherwords a crucial missed call that could be seen on replay (clearly) as wrong. And the point here is that you didn't need HDTVs to see it clearly. And this caused outrage and made people demand review again. A single "howler" you could say but one that would easily be fixed by goal-line tech alone. What happened with the NFL and how that evolved can certainly be used as a case study as it pertains to VAR. There are many lessons to be learned with how the NFL and NCAA replay systems evolved, given what we are going through with VAR. It's also important to note that with NCAA Football they did not implement any kind of review system until the mid 2000s and initially it was by conference or by choice of the home team. In NCAA it started selective and rarely used then year after year became relied upon more often and often in inconsistent ways, with often bizarre and illogical moving reasoning, very similar to what we are seeing with VAR.

It will be here to stay as long as the "right teams" get the decisions their way.

Another game and yet another example of the blatant inconsistencies of the decisions made by officials employed by PiGMOL.

VAR producing a "questionable explanation" for upholding the decision made by the on-fleld referee.

A foul, which in the eyes of many commentators watching the incident, and stating their belief of it being a red card offence, is undermined by the on-field referee's decision which subsequently is upheld by the VAR operative.

So in effect, PiGMOL officials continue to "monitor their own actions", and yet such incidents fail to result in it being called out, and serious questions being raised regarding the organisation, impartiality and integrity of the organisation.
Precis - they're corrupt cunts!

I think everyone should calm down.
We were only a leg break away from a public apology from a certain Mr Howard Webb yesterday.....
Maybe next time eh Howard?

It’s like Trump and co telling you the ICE officer was ran over and nearly killed leaving him hospitalised with internal bleeding.

That was my thought when I read it. People in 'power' seem to think they can tell us the complete opposite to what we saw.

They fucking c**ts and I'm getting sick and tired of these lies.

Newcastle player game, Newcastle semi final, Arsenal semi final same type of goal two different outcomes in less than 24hrs.

VAR was meant to stop mistakes, var is now making more mistakes then when we only had a ref seeing things in real time.

What outside source is running var ?

It isn’t making mistakes, it’s doing exactly what it wants

Is it corruption or incompetence or both?
It's corruption.
Four days ago VAR spent five and half minutes looking for an excuse to disallow a Citty goal.
Three days ago, they wasted no time in waving through a very similar Arsenal goal.
Yesterday, they spent longer inversigating two obviously offside goals than they did on Dalot's assault on Doku.
They quoted "lack of intent" as the abiding factor in their decision - even though the word "intent" has been removed from the rulebook.
To repeat: they spent longer trying to find an excuse to allow clearly offside goals for United that they did considering an issue central the welfare of a City player.
It's not incompetence, it's a conspiracy.

Maybe it’s part of the 115 deal? City are found innocent of charges but don’t cause a stink about the corruption to maintain the integrity of the Premier League. That would suit both parties.

I saw the disallowed goal for Everton too.
When the free kick was taken an Everton player(not the scorer) was offside he then jumped and made an attempt for the ball so according to to the laws he was interfering from originally being offside.
Ridiculous decisions being made weekly with forensic examination of each decision.
Clear and obvious criteria completely gone.
