VAR Discussion Thread

VAR should be a great tool to get the correct decisions, but the reason it f***s up is because the same knobheads that make the wrong decisions on field are then able to do exactly the same thing off the field, stop letting refs do the VAR and get ex players to make the decisions.
3 points stand out yesterday for me.
1. The non contact and then full on swan dive for Bournemouth to get a penalty was laughable, the penalty should have been reversed and the diver yellow carded.
2. The rag 2nd goal handball, yes it was slight but still clear enough on review to disallow it.
3. The lunging challenge by the constantly ranting Fernandes, you know instantly it’s a straight red when Neville goes “oooh” live on air, yet it wasn’t replayed constantly because they don’t have a screen at the old toilet do they!
VAR just needs operating correctly/fairly and not manipulatively.

Even before his lunge he told the ref to f off at least twice. The pl does seem to avoid this law completely

So today we'll get curtesy look at Keane challenge on doku we'll no straight leg not enough force also look at height it's on ankle with studs showing down and just why has doku got his leg there he could easily of avoid Keane,s boot as he clearly went for the ball and ref in great position to see doku dive to try buy a foul
So to sumerise great tackle and yellow to doku correct outcome achieved

It’s nonsense. The referees are too cowardly to make decisions and instead choose to hide behind a system (VAR) which is also too cowardly to overturn the decision the referee has been too cowardly to make…

I think football would be much better with VAR if it was used correctly and consistently all the time.

A VAR decision completely depends upon the frame of mind of the person deciding it. If he's already decided it's not an offence before reviewing then no amount of evidence is going to change his mind.

I've said from the outset that it is a great tool but one that is simply being used to manipulate the outcome of matches.

Give me all those camera angles and footage and I will find a reason to give you the outcome you are looking for.

Perfect example today. Give the goal? Here's the footage (mass melee - no different to numerous goals already allowed this season). Penalty West Ham? Here's the footage (3 West Ham players being fouled). Disallow the goal? Here's the footage (goalkeeper impeded).

Just tell me what result you want.

If it’s consistency we are looking for then surely we should be seeing implementation of AI to instantaneously bring up all similar / identical incidents and the decision that has previously been taken and the law of the game. No emotion, nothing.

I would honestly rather see a machine make these decisions than the fucking idiots implementing it currently.

Also adding fully automated offsides with no human interference. Watching the cretins over the last few years trying to draw lines and not understanding perspective or physics has been Darwinism at its finest.

I have no issue with VAR.

I have issues with the operators using it to manipulate outcomes and the lack of transparency along with it.

Not seen Howard Webb being questioned properly by sports journalist. Only the propaganda programme with Owen and his mate Dermot towing the party line on SkySports, with Foy doing the same in Talkshite.

Said it before, the technology is fine if all the angles are shown and in full speed. It’s the idiots running it. If someone isn’t capable of refereeing on the pitch what makes anyone think they can sit in a room and ref a game by watching it on TV. It’s been bent for decades and it’s getting worse. The fact we have won what we have is all the more remarkable.

Arsenal have got away with one. If it takes five minutes to clear, it is not a clear and obvious error. The fact that West Ham were penalised for the very reason Arsenal have scored so many set-piece goals makes it even more perplexing. Sorry to any West Ham fans here, that was no way to drop a point.
