VAR Discussion Thread

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a keeper pull a forward back with an obvious open goal whilst in control of the ball get penalised for the foul and not sent off before.
Apparently, according to Neville, Doku was being pushed too wide with the ball so yellow was correct as no scoring chance. Absolute fucking dribble coming out of his mouth yet again.

Just seen a side on photo of the foul, Doku was past the keeper and there is no Arsenal player anywhere near who could have stopped a shot. It’s as clear a red as any, yet VAR failed us yet again.
Secondly, why stop the play straight away if not for a red? The keeper is out of it and Erl is just out of shot. So if Doku doesn’t score then he lays it back to the big man, with no keeper in goal, again a goal scoring opportunity

Well we don't get a mention in the latest PiGMOL errors on the bbc but Arse were robbed at home to Everton.

Make. It. Up. As. They. Go. Along.

Edit* The period covers the weekend of the West Ham game where I can't think of anything iffy happening in our game however, I stand by the line above.

Apparently, errors by referees and VAR are up by 10 on the same stage last season....

Calling the usual suspects to the thread. Remember when our resident, non-VAR match-going VAR supporting Hamner told us time and time again that the fans wanted VAR. Guess what……

Yet the PL maintain that their 'research' with fans shows we're largely in favour of VAR. Making it up as they go along again. I've yet to come across any fellow match-going fan who doesn't want it binned.

Annoyingly quick to dismiss the 'potential' red card today. I don't think Trafford would have been shown the same leniency at the other end.
Should have been a red and no question. Doku is lightning quick, would have been round the goalie 'n open net. But our decisions are rendered to the lowest common denominator, multiplied by the square root of pi and the answer is 'Fuck off, City'!

or the ref could have simply played on - of all the possible decisions,- we got the worst option.

And match going fans is the point.
It’s great tv when you aren’t invested. Some random fan from India/China/USA/wherever scrolling their phone whilst looking up then there is a goal which then gets overruled by VAR - great tv / great spectacle. Let’s laugh at that team who have been screwed. Anyway, back to my phone now and a video of a cat falling out of a tree.
Meanwhile in the ground you are left to pray there is a bit of wifi to text a mate to ask what the fuck is going on.
That’s why it is here to stay - because it is a product (never mind the added bonus of how easy it is to use corruptly)

So the FSA results are in and 90% of fans want VAR scrapped. PL's answer "We're aware that VAR needs to be improved". No you idiots, it needs to be scrapped.
The stoppages for VAR and cheating is killing the game. It has made it more difficult to play free-flowing football. It has encouraged the unskilled physical players. The last time this happened in the 80s crowds collapsed. The attendances will start to drop off next season if this problem is not resolved.

Indeed. Last week at Wembley I was sat right at the front of the 3rd tier yet couldn't get wi-fi. In our national stadium in this day & age. Never mind the match-going fans - just keep tweaking the product and maintaining it's improved the game. Which is simply not true, as we all know.

I'll bet more match going fans are giving their opinions in the FSA poll versus the PL version. I'd imagine there is still a big discrepancy between TV viewers and match going fans.

Ultimately I think football flows better and works better without VAR. Errors are still made but fans can accept it and moan about it in the heat of the moment. They can't accept a VAR fuck up.

It also needs to be looked at how rules for VAR are being manipulated. Players diving and feigning injury by staying down on the ground knowing VAR will review.

Would Klopps fast flowing football work when there is a VAR check when the ball goes out of play nearly half the time? I would argue the speed of play on this front has harmed Pep and a lot of fast flowing attacking football.

Thrown in, pause, VAR check. Goal kick, pause, VAR check. Corner, pause, VAR check. It's tedious, it's sapping enjoyment out of football and I've not even mentioned when we can celebrate a goal.

We'll get some clangers without VAR but football is better without it.
