There's no reason in any VAR game that they need to use a current ref, they normally get pensioned off due to fitness/age but a detached ref from 5/6 years ago could watch TV and potentially be more impartial.

Agree, but 'reason' itself is in short supply, especially at UEFA, and I can all too easily see 'impartial' referees, such as Lahoz or Kassai, being in the box at some time.

Apparently on his flag handle he has a button which he presses if he wants to get the referees attention he is not aloud to wave his flag around or lift it to get the referees attention.

Wonder if they will get rid of them once VAR comes in or it might be a tax dodge by uefa so they will stay.
